Wonder if this could be covered under the dash recall that Lexus just did? Does it feel sticky?

Judging by the picture, that looks like the steering wheel started the flake and doesn't look 'worn'. Probably could do a warranty claim on this.

I have a similar issue with the driver's seat bolster. Some wear, but also flaking. Coming up on 60k miles though, and never to Lexus for service, so the likelihood of a warranty supported fix is pretty small.

It’s seems to be getting worse too. Just flaking off. It’s a CPO so hopefully it can be covered. I’m going to bring it up along with my sunroof rattle and the upcoming oil change

At the dealer for this now plus an oil change

Also there is an open recall/update on some software and they are keeping it for a day or two

I'm beginning to think these are a defective production batch.
Maybe they use different material for different markets?

My car is a 2016 model and has over 40k miles on it.

I live in an extremely hot country through out the year.
When I leave my car parked outside, temperatures inside can shoot up to well over 130F

Never had any issues with the interior, not the leather, not the plastic.

Do you like to keep your hand at the 12 oclock position?
Do you wear any potentially sharp rings?

No I don’t. I wear a rubber silicone ring, drive 2-10. I know it’s not my doing.

so after a drawn out process with Lexus Corporate offices, they are willing to pay 50%, which will roughly cost me $600 if I want s new steering wheel.

thoughts?

For that much i say look into getting an aftermarket steering wheel. It's an upgrade that many people do anyway, and personally i think most of them look way better than stock. Not sure where most people here get the new wheels, possibly from Elvin?

Steep price for a steering wheel that's functional, albeit a flaw.

If it was me, I'd probably live with it but probably would try to "patch" it somehow so that I'm not flaking more pieces off.

I agree 100% with you on that, however, I’m also thinking resale here.

Would I cringe at a flaking steering wheel if I were buying this car? Absolutely.

Would it it cost me more than the $600 in resale to a private party?

i looked at a $18 cover on amazon with great reviews, but I keep thinking that I shouldn’t need one either

It actually looks a little like someone stuck something on the wheel with some strong tape and it took off the finish when they removed it. I am surprised Lexus isn't owning up to it being a defect. I've seen them replace seat covers that were far less damaged without a whimper under warranty.

A shop can probably reupholster that w/ new leather for $200 or so. i've seen it done before, and it turns out great. of course it helps to have a second car to drive around. will also help if you pull the wheel on your own.
