Default 17 gsf drl

HI, I haven't been on here for a while, but I picked up my GSF last weekend which replaced my old 2011 IS 250. What a car, the V8 is so addictive that I have been driving around without the stereo on!

Anyway, I noticed today that my DRL's do not switch on when the car is turned on, but turn on when I place the car in to drive and start to move. The dealer thinks that this is normal, but is this the case? I am based in the U.K. so I understand that there may be some differences in the spec of our lights, but as there are only 61 GSF's registered in the U.K, I thought that I would ask on here.

Thank you in advance.

Francis

I also have a ‘17, and it does exactly that; when set in AUTO mode, DRLs only come on when shifted out of PARK.

Interesting that I didn’t notice this until now ( probably because I park in the garage and auto headlights always come on)

I just tested it and it works the same way with the 16, they don’t come on until you put the car in drive

I'm curious why / where this would matter?

My 2016 does not do that. I have my lights on Auto and DRL comes on immediately when I unlock the car and stays on during ignition.
The DRL is brighter when headlights are off, but when headlights on on, they dim

Interesting. My previous ‘14.GS350 FSport DRL’s did the same thing.

I was interested purely because this doesn't happen on any of our other Lexus cars and I wanted to know if there was an issue with my new car.

I have a 16 gs350 and mine does the exact same thing. I to did not notice this until I parked in front of the glass building at the office. I was like wait and placed the car in drive and the lights immediately turned on lol!

It's linked to the parking brake. The first time you start the vehicle with the parking brake engaged, it will not light up the DRLs. Once the parking brake is released (like is done when you shift out of Park), the DRLs come on. If you put it back in Park, the parking brake will turn back on but the DRLs will stay on. It's just the initial start-up with the parking brake engaged that disables the DRLs.

If you start-up the car and manually release the parking brake, the DRLs will come on without having to shift out of Park.

I think this is fairly common. My last Infiniti behaved the same way.
