Default Parking brake won’t work

Hey guys I got a 2013 gs350 with 104k miles. The parking brake won’t engage, took it
to the stealership and they said it’s the parking actuator. Cost to fix is 2k for the part and 2k for labor! I told them hell to the no since this all out of pocket. Has anyone had this issue?

…Man I can believe this. This isn’t a Mercedes or bmw, these prices don’t make sense. I swear this will be the last Lexus I ever buy.

While basically a Toyota, it's an over engineered Toyota.

The way I see it , you got a free diagnosis.

Either disassemble and fix it yourself .

If it can't be fixed, pull an actuator from a junker replace the part.

Or go to an independent shop and let them help you.

A glorified Toyota lol. I bet it shares the same brake actuators and cost half the price.

yea that seems to be the only logical choice. I’m not about to pay up the *** for stealership service.

MSRP is about $1,700 for the part plus probably 1.5 -2 hours of labor to replace and test it.

You can buy a used one on Bay for $200.

Or live boldly and do without it...

When did you think Lexus parts are any cheaper? That was an incorrect assumption to make.

I understand it is not easy to replace the parking brake actuator due to where it is located and all the pathways it takes and connections, which takes at least 2 hours by a trained technician that has done it before, plus it needs to be re-calibrated by a Lexus technician with Tech Stream.

I've read where a Massachusetts Lexus dealership charged $3,500 to replace it on a LS model.

I appreciate the link. I think there’s confusion, probably because of the way I wrote the post. They (Lexus) told me the total cost to fix the repair is $4,000. So if the part msrp is 1700-2000, and labor is roughly 1-2hrs, how are they getting a total of 4k for the whole job. They said it’s very labor intensive. I’m not sure where the actuator are hidden but does it really take that much time to get to them, replace and put everything back that it should cost 4k?

I knew it costs more to work on a Lexus but at $4k that’s a bit ridiculous for a parking brake job

yeah that’s horrible but at least it’s $500 cheaper than what I was quoted lol

I have never used the emergency brake on any vehicle I've ever owned except for the ones that had a hand brake and that was just for fun
I wouldn't fix it unless it had to be inspected annually or was going to be sold.

FYI the park brake is like a $900 part on Amayama. $1200 from LPN. That said, the rear bottom end of the car has to come apart, I wouldn't let anyone touch it unless they've done it before.
