I have a 2015 GS 350-F SPORT with roughly 162,000 kms (100,xxx miles) and within the last 2 weeks I noticed something weird when running the A/C and sometimes when not running the A/C when idling at a traffic light. Generally at idle prior to this the car was dead silent at idle however it now occasionally runs louder at idle and a pump like motor comes on and off(this motor that comes on and off is quite loud and sounds like a diesel trunk). I had my fuel pump replaced under the recall about 1.5 years ago. I had my A/C checked out for the recall as well and had a full inspection of the A/C because at one point my A/C was not blowing cold air in the summer(so they refilled the A/C refrigerant and said there was small leak in the system but it wasn't a concern right now - this was about a month ago and everything is still good and it blows cold air).
Is it a ticking noise? Does it sound like it is coming from the high pressure direct injection fuel pump area? If so, this is normal and ticking noise depends if the vehicle is switching between the DI system and Port Injection system. But it would be nice to hear a clip of it.

It's possible the servo motor is going bad. May want to have your dealership run diagnostics on it to ensure that it's not failing.

nope not ticking totally sounds like some sort of pump is coming on and off.

I thought so too took it into the dealership just for them to tell me it cant be reproduced and everything looks fine. It doesn’t cause issues to the way the car drives just an annoying pump comes on and off and this sounds pretty loud almost like the sound of motor or a fan.

Did you ever find a answer for this?.. I believe my car is doing this same noise in which it makes this muffed gurgling noise (Hard to explain the noise but it seems to amplify the idle pulse in a lower tone or something... Its hard to search 😬. I only hear it at idle and if I barely give it any throttle it goes away and just does this randomly with no pattern. If you step outside you can not hear it and the vehicle drives and idles just fine but with this weird noise on and off?......

@GSJ350 i noticed this behavior on my GS over the last year too. I have a '13 AWD with 70k miles. I'm convinced the problem is gremlins as its so intermittent, random and likely won't happen if i take it to the dealership!
If I don't allow the car to warm well and the temp. gauge is at the 1/8 or 1/4 mark, throw it into Drive/Reverse with my foot on the brake, idle drops as expected but is seemingly at an RPM that is too low. When the RPM is at that lower level (while engine not warmed up well), there is an annoying deep-toned, drone sound inside the cabin. There is no noise outside the vehicle.
If i throw it back into park, RPMs jump back up (expected) and that annoying drone goes away. Once the engine warms up a bit more, throwing it into Drive/Reverse drops the RPMs but to a level that does NOT coincide with / cause the annoying, deep-toned sound.
There are no other symptoms - no power loss, no vibration, no excess fuel usage, no engine cut-off at idle, etc. AC or heat on doesn't affect the noise. I was planning to get my MAF sensor and throttle body cleaned earlier in the year to see if that would help, but a few other repairs came up and the problem didn't happen/wasn't noticeable in warmer weather.
Just thought to share my experience as well in case anyone else has found a solution or noticed similar behavior...

Your experience is pretty much the same with mine, I just rolled over 116k on my 2015 and this started about 2 weeks ago. Mine definitely does it more when it has just started up but becomes more intermittent throughout the day. Turning the AC on and off has no effect, I've read of other people experiencing the same similar issue but haven't read of any ideas of what it is or any fixes. Its so intermittent and you have to be in the vehicle to hear it so it's going to be a tuff one to crack.
Just to confuse matters, I'll throw this out there. I had a relatively loud noise, I wouldn't call it diesel truck, but pretty loud to the point other people noticed and commented on it. It was not always present, usually more first thing when the car had been off for a little while. Figured out it was not the high pressure fuel pump for sure.
After lots of listening to videos and going back and forth about if it could be the VVT, which did not sound right to me in my case, it turned out to be the vacuum pump. It took a bit of sleuthing and listing to you-tube clips carfully but I did manage to convince service to consider the vacuum pump and yep - that was it. Luckily covered under CPO. In this case the noise will sound like it's basically coming from roughly behind the engine.
In my case the noise was intermittent, but very often after sitting over night.
I MAY have a clip of it somewhere - is it possible to post a video clip without putting it up on a site like you-tube first?

Dude you may be spot on with the vacuum pump 👍🏻, soon as I read "Vacuum Pump" my brain just went "That's it!". It has like this chugging sound which a vacuum pump would make total since. Thanks for just writing that because I think you just hit the nail on the head here. Going to go do some research and I'll post back with my findings... Your the reason why these forums are so helpful for everyone when something stumps you and not sure what your next step should be. Thanks 🙏🏻

Awesome! Glad I could help and fingers crossed that that's the problem.
Be aware of this noise coming from the car after the engine is turned Off!
The noise is nothing to worry about - your Lexus fuel tank evaporation system is automatically safety checked for leakage approximately 5 hours after the engine is turned Off.
I only notice the noise while the engine is running, it happens progressively less the longer the car is on but don't notice any negative effects while I hear this sound. Its almost like a valve in the exhaust opens and you can hear it becoming a deeper tone, but as soon as you tap the gas to raise the idle any it just goes away....
