Default Considering extended warranty

Bought my 2013 last July and did not opt for any extended warranty. Called my credit union today and they quoted me a price of $2045 for a 4 year or 60k mile warranty that covers all the major stuff and some surprising stuff like all gaskets and seals, front suspension on cars under 85k miles. Also includes roadside assistance, trip interruption insurance and rental car coverage. For $150 extra the technology package is included. Can be used at any Lexus dealer or shop that has ASE certified mechanics. The warranty can be cancelled at any time.

So $2195 total for 4 years or up to 102k miles (car has 42k miles now). Added to my loan it brings my payment down from $486 to $461. $2195 ain't bad when any major repair would prob exceed that.

I've attached the terms in pdf.

I know everyone has very strong feelings about ext warranties but if I plan on keeping the car at least 4 more years might be worth it. Essentially a $2200 insurance policy.

Will never get an extended warranty on a Toyota product (except maybe the new Supra and 86 )

There really aren't major repairs on these cars. Only thing I can imagine is blown struts and cost of OEM rotors/brakes.

Maybe some others can chime in. But it'd be a hard pass for me.

There is so little chance that you will have unexpected service needs exceeding that total.

Just drive the car and maintain it as per the schedule. In all likelihood, it will go 150k miles without incident.

Put that same money in the stock market on an S&P ETF and it will be worth more than the repairs you will incur in 4 years, assuming you take care of it and it is in great shape now.

I had one on mine for 3yr/100k. I think I only used it once, clock replacement. Knew when I got it that it wasn't a great financial choice, but I wanted the peace of mind. The stock fund idea is probably the right way to go. good luck.

It’s good coverage but I don’t think it’s necessary on a GS. They generally just don’t have those expensive failures.
that said, it’s all about peace of mind.

I still have a 150k 5 more years Platinum warranty on my 13 Lux has 41k on it now. For a payment to go down and have a Warranty is a great thing. Only neg is the 60k miles. Will they go longer for like a higher deductible? I had a 13 ES350 U/L is was very, very reliable. Lots of come lately to Lex/Toy here now and the 4th Gen GS. See if they have a more fuller coverage Contract?

The ES350 don't need no warranty if maintained. The GS not so much, already has like 10 common things wrong right now. It's a good car but not exactly Lex/Toy's most reliable car. Suppose the posters here a/c servo's go out the summer on the ones not covered? The Navi? Come up with the mysterious Steering problem or Vacuum pump engine tap/tick/knock issue. Me I would see if you could go longer in the Miles with like a higher deduct. That's how I got my Platinum everything covered service contract so long extended. The posters here can not assure you no problems and won't be paying for your problems. Just saying.

FYI: If you did the car before the Contract ends you could transfer it and sell with" Warranty Contract" also.

It doesn’t cover the common items that goes wrong with the car. This includes AC servo motors and leaking struts.

Get the first one listed to the left called the Easy Street Factory Type.

https://www.arvest.com/pdfs/route-66-coverage

Reason why in my 1st post I said see if they have a more fuller coverage contract.

Would you rather take a guaranteed loss of $2195 or take your chances on the (very unlikely) event that the car will need more than that in covered repairs? With the GS, the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor if you decide to gamble and not opt for warranty.

That being said, if I was going to buy into an extended warranty, I'd want it with a complicated German nightmare car .

Its a 9 year maybe 10 year old car depending on the build and in service date. 4 years from now it will be a 14 year old car. I still say up the Coverage to cover more items. Another calculation using those numbers is investing $1.52 per day. Minus the reduced payment.

With the age, big loss of reduced payment a $1.52 a day. Until 2026 Zero risk and nothing will go wrong.
