I haven’t driven my car (2014 GS350 AWD/100k miles) for about a month due to foot surgery. My girlfriend recently moved it for me and said why does your car rev when I put it in park? I moved the car across the street today and noticed that it idles at about 1500 when started and after I moved it and put it in park the RPMs went up to around 1500 again. This isn’t anything I’ve noticed before and there’s no rough idle or anything of that nature. I just wanted to check if this is a normal idle speed for this car. Also, it didn’t warm up at all.

Likely it was just cold and the high idle routine was running. You need to move it more than a few feet to see if it goes to normal after a couple of minutes. Most people get in, start the car and go and by the time you get somewhere to put it in park, it is all warmed up and normal.Originally Posted by Clayboy718

Normal, should get below 1k in less than 30 seconds. Unless the outside temp is cold and/or it hasn't been started in a while.
Cold start idle - The car idles at higher rpm on cold starts to warm itself up and get the catalytic converters up to temperature faster to reduce emissions. Also, helps get warm air in the cabin faster. Completely normal.

Completely normal, I've had people tell me the same when they moved my car. And the idle usually drops after 20-30 seconds

Mine starts at 1500, drops to 1250 then 1000 after a minute or so. After it reaches operating temp it idles at 750. Where I live it's never below 60.Originally Posted by Kingmatt24

Any temp below about 190°F is going to be "cold" for the engine. It will fast idle if it has been sitting all day in the hot sun but not for as long.Originally Posted by gs350noob
