Default RSR BASIC*I ACTIVE COILOVER - owner feedback?

I am looking at lowering my car. I’ll be on 20’s and I am accustomed to the challenges that come with lowering a car on coilovers.

I have read that regular mode is like sport+ all the time.

I do have some questions for current owner.
  • how’s the stiffest setting and what is it comparable too.
  • Any concerns driving around town?
  • anything you dislike about it?
  • Would you do something different know I got what you know now?

I am mostly concerned about my front end and high siding going in and out of certain parking lots, like mine. Yes, driving at a angle reduces this.

The front end on this car is concern for me around town being lowered.

For example exiting gas stations around here come close to scrapping if your not paying attention leaving. I am hoping the stiffest setting will reduce this concern as Sport+ helps a little.

RSR is our most popular GS350 coilover. You can adjust ride height so if its too low how it comes, then you can raise it and keep it at that setting and vice versa. It retains the AVS function so you can switch between comfort/sport which people love.

Let us know if we can help.

I had RSR Active Best*i coilovers on mine. Scrapping everywhere I go. I had front lip so it was low to ground. Front and Rear tends to rub again wheel liners too when going fast over dips in road or when I had passengers loaded up front and rears. It was PITA to drive around town. I got rid of the car not long after installing coilovers. I probably could have spent the time to dial it in but didn't have the time.

If I had to do it again, I'd probably go CKS with custom 12k/10k Swift springs. The RSR spring rate is too soft IMO. Normal AVS with the RSR is like Sport +. Sport + is like Sport ++ obviously a bit stiffer than stock, but not bone jarring stiff. Really depends on your style. You want comfort almost stock-like, go RSR. More aggressive spring rate go CKS with custom Swift springs.

Josh, I get you want to sell products. However, it would be nice if you read what I am asking. No offence, but I’ve dealt with other vendors that answer my questions and not explain what I already know. See previous post 😉

Another point: if you want to retain AVS, RSR is the only way to go. CKS doesn't work with AVS. Not a big deal to me, but may be important to you.

@jdpdata thanks, that was very informative. That’s been my concern with RSR with it being too soft. I’ve owned track cars and have a Gti MKVII as well. So, I don’t mind stiffer.

has anyone out swift springs on RSR. I am trying to avoid BC coils nothing wrong with them), but I am trying to maintain AVS functionality.

I have looked at CKS and if drivability wins over functionality with AVS. I may have to consider it.

I can tell you that running CKS 24/24 stiff is way more comfortable than stock system while never dipping in the road

I love my cks coils / any ride I had with AVS was poor compared to this even when I run slammed

Any ride with AVS? are you comparing the stock setup to CKS?

AVS will give you problems at 100k+ miles

plus it’s not that good even when it works

CKS coils are superior in every single way to any suspension set up offered for our car

That is not true, JP! The Tein Flex coils are AVS compatible. @GS350BEN has had them installed on multiple vehicles, maybe Ben can give some input on how they are.

Is there an AWD fitment for the Tein Flex?

right, that's any suspension setup to be perfectly honest in terms of how long they will last. Some aftermarket Coils won't even come close to 100K.

In terms of AVS, that is completely subjective. I find that AVS works decently for what it is. Is it comparable to the European counterparts, the simple answer is, no. But then again you can't look at the lexus as a comparison in that regards

I totally get you love your CKS with a recent install from Steve at MOD in Japan. I'd be stoked too with a recent purchase. I am just trying to get as much of an objective comparison as possible, that's all really.

Keep in mind I am not looking to slam my car, or have a race car, as this isn't my intentions with this ride.

To be fair, CKS aren't the only "best" for our vehicle. Ohlin's would easily take that crown away from other brands IMO.

Yes, they do make AVS compatible, but not for AWD I thought. Has something recently changed?

You can get them imported (if they are still available) and if you have to ask, then it is out of your budget. What else have you put on your car other than CKS?
