Howdy
I recently bought a used 2016 Lexus GS 350 f sport. It is at the dealership with a possible water pump issue. I found fluid on the floor of my garage.
My Question: What are some causes for 2016 with 35K miles to have this issue already? is it common?
Fluid: Pink red-ish, non oily

Reason: pic
Definitely not common. Cause could be anything but most likely just a defective part. It happens unfortunately. Hopefully dealership cuts you a break on cost since it shouldn't fail this soon (if it wasn't L-certified CPO)
I also just recently purchased a 2016 f sport with only 34k on it, the carfax showed the dealership replaced the water pump a little after 30k, I’ve never heard of one going bad that early on a lexus/Toyota but I suppose anything’s possible
The water pump was replaced under warranty on my 2016 IS200T (also purchased brand new) at 25k miles. FWIW. It was about 3 years old at time of failure. So it can happen. The technician notes indicated the seal was pinched from the factory.
Usually either the seal or the bearing itself within the pump can fail. But yeah that's obviously a coolant leak.
Update: Took it to Lexus, It was indeed the water pump. Covered under powertrain so no out-of-pocket cost. When I asked what could cause this, " it can happen" was the answer. I'm ok with that i guess.
My wife's '17 NX had to have the water pump replaced at 44K miles. Noticed drops of fluid on the garage floor. Dealership took care of it for us and was real apologetic about it but it did strike me as odd for it to fail with so few miles on it. Toyota must have acquired a bad batch of pumps back in 2016 or something.
My water pump on my 2016 was also replaced under warranty at 30k miles. I didn’t even notice the leak and when I just took it in for an oil change, they said it was leaking and just changed it for me.
I thought it was weird to change it that early in the age of the car but after reading this thread, I guess it’s a common problem? I thought the dealership was trying to scam corporate with some warranty service lol.
