Default Squeeking/rubbing noise from front tire

Hi all,

I’m driving a 2013 GS 350 F sport.

As pulling into my destination 100+ miles out of town (of course it happens now), I noticed a rubbing/scratching sound coming from my front right tire. I notice it when driving with my windows open, not when closed.

It happens when driving slow (not sure if also when driving fast as I haven’t tested it). The noise goes away when I press the brakes or when I turn the wheel all the way to the left or right.

Only thing I can think of that happened recently was I ran into the curb with my wheel turned to the right when parking. Probably was going less than 5mph but it did scratch up my rim pretty bad.

I can also try to upload an audio file of the noise tomorrow.

Appreciate any input!
Thanks so much!

Look under the car, turn the wheel all the way in both directions and inspect the wheel well. Maybe some part of the plastic liner came loose. if nothing obvious, take the wheel off and inspect the metal shield behind the brake rotor, if that got bent it could be touching, just bent it back.

Try peasodos’ ideas... or it could simply be that your brake pads are low and you’re hearing the wear sensors and their occasional contact with the rotors.

Could also be the rotor rubbing the heat shield behind it, can happen as rotors age, and the rust at the edges widens the rotors slightly.

If you have your original front rotors, that's possible. You can create a larger gap by pushing the heat shield away from the rotors in a few accessible places.

Hi all,

As an update - I took it to the mechanic and he said it was the low brake indicator. Changed my brakes (and had to change the rotors too...ouch) and now the noise is gone.

Thanks for your input
