Default Firewall Passthrough

Does anyone have any tips to pass through a wire on the driver's side firewall? I am trying to pass a small OBD-II wire that runs from the OBD-II port to my JB4 tuner which is mounted near the battery. I took a look there and it looks very well sealed.

Thanks for any help!

There are grommets in the firewall you can use to pass wires through the firewall.

I found the grommet but its incredibly tight compared to other vehicles I have owned. I was looking for some tips to negotiate through it. The link you posted is helpful, thanks!

I just want to confirm - are you saying to just poke a hole though the grommet with the hanger? Thanks

Tie the wires to a coat hanger with tape, and punch it through the grommet. Careful to not hit any existing wires when you do this. Adding a bit of grease can help it go through the grommet with less struggle.

I want to make an inappropriate joke, BUT I shall refrain from saying it.

P.S. In the future, I may just drill my own hole in the firewall and install a grommet.

.
As do I, however I fear a large percentage of GS fans belong to the would-be offended group

There actually is a standalone nipple for passing through new wires, its just cleanly taped to the existing main bundle and hard to see. Once the tape is carefully cut with a hobby knife/scalpel, the nipple end or nipple itself can be cut. From the inside of the car there is a pretty clear entry at around 11 o'clock on the grommet.

I passed through a wire with a small connector and it was akin the birth of my daughter, episiotomy and all lol.
A picture would have been nice... of the grommet of course! And congratulations on the new child!

Thanks! I will try to get a few photos, there is not much time for car work with the little one to tend to!

It was not possible to get a clear photo of the engine bay but on the inside of the driver's side footwell, the grommet is as pictured. At around 1 o'clock there is an empty hole to run a wire. It's currently occupied by the wire I ran. Stick some thing sharp through there like a skewer or coat hanger and you will it poke out of the spare nipple in the engine bay. It wont interfere with any existing wires.
