Default Tires

I have a 2015 gs350 base RWD and am looking for decent tires in LA with not spending too much. What would you all recommend or what do you currently have on?

235/45-R18Factory tire size

America's tire has the below. Any experience with these as they have millage warranty?

NANKANG TIRENS-25 A/S UHP235 /45 R18 98H XL BSW Item# 41069 50kmile warranty $62.00

OHTSU TIREFP0612 A/S235 /45 R18 94V SL BSW Item# 34182 40k mile warranty $65.00

Have you considered recapped tires?

Don't get Nankang tires ever!! I've learned my lesson with those cheapo POS tires. The lowest I'll go is prob Nexen tires. I've had good experiences with them before, but this was a few years back.

Cheaping out on tires is not something I would do. Go with the good tires everyone on here recommends. Lots of threads on it.

OHTSU make some good tires. The parent company is Sumitomo Rubber Industries which launched Falken Tires in 1983. When I couldn't get my Falken 452's at one point. I had to switch over to OHTSU which was the same compound and same tire tread. If it's your daily then you'd be fine with them.

I ran Nankangs about 15 years ago. I can't remember any specific issues with them and I am very surprised to see the price is still similar.

Over the years of trials, I now only use Michelin. My current choice for the GS is Pilot Sport 4S although we just have the all seasons on our past ES and current NX.

I remember being very price-sensitive in the early 2000's and primarily used Falkens (2 sets) on my Infiniti G35 since they were a fraction of the price of Goodyears and Michelins. But they only lasted about 12-18K miles where I would get 30-40K on the brand names tires. The Falkens were similar to the GYs in that they were all-season and should have had similar performance. With that said, I was in a serious accident a couple of years ago where I T-boned another car on the highway, hitting her on the driver's side trunk area, this while braking; I had GYs. If I had tires that had lesser braking performance, my GS might have slowed less and I might have impacted closer to, or at the driver's door... and that person might not have still been with us. It's a thought that's a little haunting.

If I can help it, I will never cheap out on tires again.

Great point. Your vehicle is only riding on a few inches of contact with the ground at any given time, so make them count. The compound is what you pay for and that's what will make a difference during emergency braking or avoidance maneuvers.

depends on what youre looking for. personally for cheap brands i think kumho is really good (better than some of the more expensive brands even) they seem to make good performing tires but if you wanna stay with a slighltly better brand, i personally was looking at the bfgoodrich gforce comp as2’s instead of the michelins.

If a super premium brand is not on the budget, go to the next level. Do NOT go to those off-brands. You will be regretting it right away. Khumo, Cooper, Falken, Uniroyal, or General should be your targets. Also going 245/275s will give you all the options.

This is exactly what I did. Got a new set of G-Max RS 245-40-19 and 275-35-19 from DiscountTire about a month ago here in SoCal. It's been raining on and off the past 4 weeks or so and I thought it was best time to replace my original Bridgestone set after 30,000 miles. Was also considering a set of Falken Azenis FK510. Michelin PS 4S set would have been about $600 more.

About $910 out the door including road hazard warranty for all 4 tires. There was also a 10% (15% with their card) on total purchase site rebate plus additional $70 manufacturer rebate for a set of 4 tires from General Tires so about $750 after all the rebates.

Tires have been very good in the rain, seems like most people are going at least 80 mph on the freeways here in LA area even when it's raining because it's so wide open due to the coronavirus. I think the original set handled slightly better when they were brand new but the new G-Max RS set is also slightly taller (about 0.3 inch) with more sidewall. The Bridgestones also had stiffer side walls because I can feel almost all the bumps, potholes and other road imperfections, it's smoother ride with the new G-Max RS set. If I get at least 25,000 miles I'd be happy.
