interesting that the 300h doesn’t get better
mileage than the 450h in a heavy car like the GS.

When I first purchased the car, my range was 275 with and average of 19.0 mph. I am now up to 317 miles (range) after fill up. My average is 19.9 mpg.

Something is seriously wrong with your car.

I had a 2007 GS 3350 RWD for 12 years, a used GS 350 with 40K miles for several months. For me in San Diego with traffic and short trips each measured 19 MPG and average speed of 17 MPH. I pass slow cars in the fast lane and drive fast when I can, so I' sure that did not help the mileage.
Just got a 2020 F Sport; have not driven it enough to report mileage, but I'm happy to see the gas tank must be bigger. Instead of estimated 300 mile range at fill-ups I now see 400 mile range.

Must be something wrong with the car. Have a mechanic get the diag codes or have Autozone scan it.

I’ll have to agree that the MPG is pretty bad on this car. I have a 2013 and my average hovers at 20MPG with mixed city/hwy. Last night I did a 200 mile one way drive and I think I averaged 23-24 (LA to Big Bear).

When I first purchased it, I commuted from LA to SD for work. Tried different modes, thought eco would yield me better MPG. In the end it was all too close to even bother with eco. I reckon I was averaging 24ish then also (forgive me this was 3+ years ago). Driving slower didn’t help much, feathering didn’t either.

Definitely not the MPG I expected when purchasing (naively thought, its a Toyota it’ll get great gas mileage!). I guess it’s not horrible compared to the EPA estimates. But IMO, the car is too slow and gutless to get low 20s a gallon. If it was a more powerful and quicker car, it’d be pretty good.

I traded in a C63 for this car and to be honest I regretted it the next day. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice car and it’s a comfortable car (I’ve had it 3+ years now so it’s been nice enough for me to latch onto this long). It’s performance just doesn’t excite me.

To compare, the C63 got me low 20s on the LA to SD journey also. City driving, forget it low teens at best. Mixed I got mid to high teens. Definitely worth the extra fuel expense though.

Now if the GS got closer to 30 MPG, I’d be content. The power output of this car seems like it should yield a 30MPG average.

Another note. My average tank gives me 280-320. 320 is usually when I run it bone dry. I mean really low. lol.

For those curious about why I got the GS, it was the first car I looked at of the perspective cars I was considering. I wanted brown interior (all the cars had “brown” interior), I liked the flaxen color and it had a black headliner. I seriously bought this car for the interior colors. If it has a grey headliner, I wouldn’t be in this car. lol

Don’t interpret my rant as I hate this car. It’s a wonderful car. I definitely recommend it to people to purchase. It just happens it’s not really a car for “me.”

Hopefully my post isn’t too jumbled up. I just kind of kept going. Not much to do nowadays. I don’t riot, so I wrote y’all a story.

I'm a smooth driver and I drive around 72 miles per day with 95% being the freeway in Norcal. I didn't buy for gas mileage but I enjoy the power when I need to pass someone or make a fast lane change.
It's proven reliability is another strong point. Unless you get an EV, it's a trade-off between gas and power as Scotty always say as well.

Most of my driving is in the city. Not much highway driving these days. Do you think that's a factor or even then it's still abnormal?

City MPG isn't great. Lately, I've been doing locally since I've been working remotely and I can see the MPG drops. I found on the freeway driving I get really good MPG (near to rated highway numbers).

For best MPG, probably a hybrid or electric would yield better results.

I knew I wasn’t exactly getting a fuel efficient vehicle, but my mileage has been atrocious, if the onboard computer is to be believed. My last tank read as 10.6 mpg ‘since last fill up’ in the gauge cluster. Tried using eco mode a bunch on my current tank, which reads at 13 something mpg since last fill up. I drive 90-95% city, and I live in SF which is probably the worst city in the country for gas mileage, so I’m not that surprised, but still. I’ve only had the car for a few weeks so I haven’t gotten around to doing the mpg math myself yet.

Hey CLUser - Welcome!

Could you clarify. By gauge cluster you're talking about the speedometer area correct? On the F Sport that area uses the term "After Reset" - not "since last fill-up" This one is cumulative since it was last reset by pressing and holding the little dot button on the right of the steering wheel. If it hasn't been reset in a while that could have an impact (not sure if yours is new or used?) There's a second place in the Infotainment area where it also tracks mileage. This one shows a history and is based on last fill up. If you have a Lux or non-f sport yours may be a little different.

From photos above in this thread, it also looks like that may change based on what your ODO setting is at (Total Mileage, Trip A, Trip B, etc..) - if it's on a Trip ODO then my guess is that it's since the last Trip ODO reset that it's calculating from.

Both of those seem a low. My commute is mostly all city and it's a bit hilly (although not as bad as DT SF) My mileage generally runs about 17. Driving style can also make a noticeable distance.

You can select “after reset” or “since last fill up” which is what I have mine set on.

My best was 410 miles while driving to Pittsburgh from Germantown and back, almost all highway doing an average of 70 mph, but varying elevation. I am pretty sure I could have gotten another 10-15 MPG out of the tank, but I didn't want to risk it.

Mine is a 2016 GS350 AWD.

Thanks. I’m the second owner of a 2013 lux. yes, the speedo area. It seems like it resets when I reset trip A. I don’t drive like a maniac or anything, but I generally try to leave traffic behind if I’m in front at a light. It kind of makes sense that with such a heavy car, constantly accelerating and stopping at all the stop signs and short blocks here, up steep hills and in traffic, would be very deleterious to mpg. I’ve never gotten the epa city rated fuel economy on any car I’ve owned, usually More like 75 or 80%, but the gs has been a bit worse than that. Again, I don’t know how accurate the mpg calculation in the gauge cluster is.

Thanks for the info! Where do you change that setting? Does it magically know the car was refueled somehow or is it tied to something that has to be reset also (like the Trip ODO)? I also wasn't sure if "Since last fill up" was the same as "After Refuel" as shown in the photos in the post earlier in this thread.
