Quote for front damage
Everyone's situation is different but for me, it's a no brainer. To go from min to $100K coverage isn't much more, perhaps $200 more a year. For a tad over 50 cents a day, I can sleep well at night and have peace of mind. That's money well spent. I don't think anyone is saying get the highest coverage but $20K coverage is pretty much like not having any insurance at all in this day and age.

If I could opt out of social security and medicare I would in a heartbeat, and just pocket everything. People are getting reamed/scared into paying insurance for healthcare, auto, home, life. The amount people pay nowadays(In total for insurance) is more than ever, it's ridiculous. $2k a year for car insurance is a massive rip off IMO, 10 years you could have bought another car, 40 years you could have bought 4 nice used cars...
In the future cars are only going to get safer, and insurance is going to get even more free money.

I sleep perfectly fine, if I didn't need to have insurance I wouldn't. I'd rather take the risk like I've been doing my whole life than waste the money I have the last 14 years driving on insurance. It's free money for them. Virginia has these minimums for a reason, when I lived in NY it was higher, if you don't like it change the law, because I don't care.

Everyone sleeps well until stuff happens and they don't sleep well. Uninsured motorist, hit and run, unexpected illness, injury, ...etc and poof that 6 figure bank account is gone.
I can't speak for you but I'm glad I have insurance and I'm glad to be paying for insurance and hope I never have to use it. But life is life. Call it bad luck or whatever, insurance has kept me from being bankrupt twice in life and it wasn't even me who was sick.

Let's turn things around a bit. How would you deal with a situation where you were involved in an accident that totaled your vehicle and caused you very serious injuries and the other party was at-fault, but he was an uninsured motorist and all you have is your state's minimum liability only insurance?

You've been lucky! Count your lucky stars! That amount of money is nothing compared to what it could cost you if your luck runs out. Do you not understand that?
