The shims come with the factory pads and yes they go behind the pads between the pad and the caliper/piston. Most pads come with some sort of shim set.

When I bought the OEM brake pads, it did not come with any shim kit. I had to buy them separately. The part number for the shim kit is 0494530340 for the F-Sport RWD. DaveB, you might want to get them as it might help stop the brake noise. They are fairly cheap on EBay.
