Default Lost Key Fob

So I managed to lose my only key fob yesterday, good thing I have AAA. Frustrating afternoon but I didn’t let it ruin my day.

Can I techstream a new key if I now have zero keys for my car? Or do I have to take it to Lexus?

You need one working key fob to add a new one with techstream. You can also erase all the key fobs you don't have.

Lexus wanted $804.00 + tax and I needed to tow it there. So I called a mobile guy and he charged $350 with a new remote and key cut. Super convenient.

Get yourself another key fob and program it yourself with techstream. Always have 2 key fobs for your car. This was the first purchase I made after I bought my car used and it only came with one fob.

I now have 2 fobs and one credit card key.

Yes that's what I am doing this weekend and what I should have done when I got this car. Lesson learned.

Yikes! I just bought a 2016 beginning of the month with only 1 remote!

Techstream is a software to program the fobs?

Other than dealer, best places in your opinions to buy fobs and card key?

Locksmith if you have no other options. They quoted me $180 for a new fob & programming which is competitive.

Yes you can get the SW off of Ebay and the fob should be around $100.

I was in getting my 40k service this week and asked about a new FOB and programming since I only got the 1 when I bought the car. They told me it was 379.99 for FOB and having it programmed. I guess it varies by dealer.

Cost me less than $100 for a virgin fob and cable/techstream software to program it myself. It was one of the first things I did when I bought my GS a few years ago.

Then just $13 for a new blade cut by photo, dealership charges something ridiculous to cut the physical key:
You just send them 3 pics of my current key blade they laser cut a new key. I had 2 blades cut this way and they work perfectly.
$13 includes the cutting and the new blade.

The stealership makes a killing on services like this.

Resurrecting an old thread. My wife just lost the key fob but not the key insert. When she looked at her keychain, all that was there was the key from the fob and the actual remote was gone. Sooooo..... now I need to replace the remote and have a few questions.

1) Does the remote I buy have to be a virgin remote or will any same ID's used remote from ebay work?
2) I have the other remote that works on the car. Does anyone have the steps to use techstream to program a new remote available? I had techstream and the cable but I have never been able to get it to work any more than detecting the car and seeing some vehicle basic details. Not sure what I am doing wrong when getting into techstream.

What options do I have other than the dealer or trying to program myself to get a different fob programmed to the car?

What version techstream were you running? Seems like you might need an older version of techstream sometimes to get the "utility" function.

Buy a New Lexus GSF credit card key from any online dealer, works on any 2013+ GS:
89904-30L50

Then I programmed it myself with Techstream. Here is the thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...-2013-gsh.html
You can buy Techstream and the USB to OBDII cord on eBay or amazon for like $25.

Techstream Tutorial for Registering New Key

1. Connect cable from USB on your computer to OBDII port under the dash on the drivers side.
2. Put the ignition into the "ON" position(click start button twice without stepping on the brake pedal).
3. Launch techstream on your laptop.
4. Click "Connect to Vehicle"

5. Techstream will load your vehicle information including VIN if successful. You might have to select a option from the drop down tab that says: "< Select >". In my case it's Radar Cruise Control or Other. I select Other since I don't have radar cruise control. Then click "Next".

6. Double click "Smart Access"

7. Select "Utility" from the buttons on the left.

8. Select "Smart Code Registration" to add a new key.
Select "Smart Code Erasure" instead if you want to erase all outstanding keys and register the keys you have in-hand. This will erase any keys you don't have from a previous owner.

9. Then you follow the on screen prompts. It includes pictures and instructions. Essentially what you do is click a button, put a registered key directly in front of the engine start button, it will beep. Then put that key away from the car and put the new key directly in front of the start button and it will beep when it's successful. That it, super easy.
