Costco Comp shops the local gas stations and will make sure they beat them all.

We own a gas station and I fill up at Costco as it’s top tier gasoline. Plus our station isn’t close to go to just get gas, I use to fill up at shell. As of about 2 years ago I switched to Costco once it opened up locally. Plus for the price difference compared to the local shell down the street from Costco it’s a no brainer. No issues so far.

Does anyone have insight as to why this is? is it they're just charging more for the fuel cleaner additive they add to the premium? If I remember correctly it was around 2007-2012 that we had the gas crisis and regular prices went soaring and thats why price gaps between reg and prem went to 60 cents, but guess they decided they could get away with that pricing and it never went back down? all lower octane gas is premium thats been diluted without the additive right? one of the requirements i thought for top tier gas was having a good detergent added to the gas[/QUOTE]

Yes, as cars displacements are decreasing and the turbo 4, 6 and 8's need premium fuel to run properly
there leveraging the market for profits

cheers

that may be true for some but not all. turbo accords are still 87 and if any of those other mass produced cars required premium im sure that would be a limiting factor in sales. unless they're never told it needs premium

I am curious if someone here is using a lower octane / regular gas on their GS 350? Is there a huge performance hit? Does it negatively impact engine life?

I've tried both and see no reason to run premium. Over the past 40k miles I've run nothing but 87 regular and it's just fine. I cannot tell the difference to premium on my GS350.

my friend has a an 18 gs350 and had a 15 gs
the car gets 1-2 mpg combined worst gas mileage and performance decreases, make you own thoughts on what to put in your vehicle seems to me unless your doing a highway trip burning up the miles use premium locally will help with better throttle response and better gas mileage

i was next to my friend with my wifes car and we played a little at stop light
running 87 when my friend floored it the gs detonated with the gas he had it.
for me i don't want any car i drive knocking... not good for longevity

and for the poster with the 87 and the accord, the new 1.5 and 2.0 are designed for regular unleaded and are great motors
i didn't say every car with a turbo needs it, the question is why is premium gas increasing the delta from regular unleaded
its called leverage from the oil companies.. other day i saw a shell that had premium $1 more a gallon than regular

Some gas stations rip you off horribly, I have used nothing but premium and mostly Coscto, and i have found that Costco premium is typically cheaper than other gast station's mid grade.

California is not alone. The Chevron and Shell nearest me are now both back up to $3.70. I'm thankful I don't drive that much.

Luckily Costco is around $3.10 right now.

i used to fill up at shell gas station 91octane since I got my gs350 last year, but I always notice the ride after a couple of day is Sluggish and not smooth, and sometimes I fill up gas from different station right away I get misfire and engine light l, never happened to me with Costco and the ride is very smooth till the next fill up. Not sure if anyone notice this !!!?

I've been filling up with shell 91 for a few months now and never notice any difference. I used to fill up at Costco before but now they're just too crowded, plus I got a discount at Shell with their credit card so that offsets the price difference a bit and no waiting in line either.

I also heard it's a good idea to use different brand of gas instead of sticking with just one. Not sure how true this is though. But yeah, I've had no problems with different gas brands.
