GROM VL2 installed
1. Secure the main VLine module in the glove box for easier access and secure location. It will help to preserve the Bluetooth antenna, and make sure the cables are not bent. Some installers leave the unit inside the dashboard and it can damage the unit or the Bluetooth antenna. In addition the accessible location will allow you to access the unit later if for example you will need to update it with USB.
2. Secure the GPS antenna in the location where there are no metal parts around it. The best is to position it on the right hand side on the dashboard, facing the sky.
Let us know if you have any questions, we are happy to help!

Hey Mrke1, I apologize I didnt see this message until now. I did install, curious to share notes. I did try to DM you but my account may be too new to do so as I get an error. I will post my installation notes for others below.
I wanted to share my notes with the forum here as I have been with the Grom Vline2 for a few months now on my 2019 GS350. Hopefully this helps others that read this particular thread.
Preparation
My initial boot up of this unit presented a pink screen that stayed up for a long time. It never fully booted. I took this as a bad omen, but began unplugging the unit to reboot. Once again, I will mention that this thing can only be rebooted by unplugging the molex connector. I do realize new mole connectors are sharp, and someone a pain to pull out, but DO NOT PULL THE WIRES.
I was finally able to load into the OS but had to pull the plug several times as I kept losing my mouse, and screen froze. No matter what I did, I could not get into the Lexus factory UI. There were several OTA updates that were available, and I was able to update which seemed to help the loss of mouse and pink freezing screen. It didn't completely go away, but it wasn't as frequent.
Wireless Apple Car Play was OK. It took a long time sometimes to connect, other times it would just spin. Had to remove Bluetooth off my phone and re-enable for it to connect several times. I decided to use the hardwired connection on USB1 since I plug my phone in when I get into the car anyway. That seemed to help with instant connectivity to APC.
First Several Weeks
To be honest, I was ready to smash this thing office space style after the first week. Constant freezing, constant mouse loss and a ton of pulling the plug to reboot. Rebooting was daily, multiple times a day. By the way, did I mention there was no switch to turn this thing on and off?
I did open a request with Grom support during my initial testing phase, but didnt see a response right away. little did I know, they did respond during business hours and it was my fault. Pro Tip: check your spam folder if you have gmail. They did respond, but for some reason no matter what I told Gmail, it thought it was spam. I spoke with Heath throughout the week and explained my issues, he helped me trouble shoot, and sent me some firmware updates that I needed to apply with a USB drive in USB2 slot.
Final Thoughts
After installing the 2nd firmware update, I have NOT Had to reboot this thing for weeks. It has been flawless, even on short trips where the car needs to be turned on/off within 10 minutes where many of my issues surfaced. I haven't seen the dreaded Pink screen of death, and never lost the mouse. I am able to log back into the Lexus UI and back into the Grom OS without issue. Star the car, plug in the phone and we are in business. Just like it should be. Note that Grom take a few seconds to boot into the UI, so be patient. If you are looking for something instantaneous, this is not the right tool for you. I usually spend a few minutes in my car on a "cold" start so it was not a big deal for me. It takes about 20 seconds or so before I am in the apple car play UI.
Spend some time playing and getting yourself familiar with all the options on this thing. There are a TON and they are in "odd" places. Microphone gain, display settings will need some finesse depending on your cars settings. I installed the full Gsuite (or whatever it was called). This can be used IF you do not want to use CarPlay or Android Auto. Basically, you install all the apps on the unit itself by using the Android store and it will use your phones cell signal in combination with the satellite antenna to give you proper navigation and information. This can give you a ton of options if you use stuff for home automation, or if you want to install Netflix to watch shows in your car on your lunch breaks.
If you are still on the fence on one of these units, I can safely say so far with what I have experienced just go for it. GROM support has been amazing, and is based in US. They respond quickly to resolve any issue with a personal update file that fits your car.
@gromaudio If you are reading this thread Please Please Please install a reset button or on/off switch the next time you switch hardware. I imagine that folks will destroy the wires on the molex connector if they need to keep rebooting over time.
Preparation
- Purchase a cheap trim removal tool from Amazon. Will make your life easier and less damage to your car.
- Read the instructions that come with the unit itself. I also watched a few youtube videos the night before to help me prepare.
- you will also need a towel, 10mm socket (with extension), a flashlight and a small stubby Philips screwdriver. Zip ties are a plus as well to help keep wires contained.
- Follow instructions or videos. TAKE YOUR TIME.
- Plug everything in and leave everything out as you should test the unit before you complete your final wire routes.
- Once you have confirmation that things are working with the unit/screen, now its time to find a path for the wires to the glovebox.
- Using a flashlight pointed up behind the glovebox, you should see some paths where the wires can run. It may take a few mins, but there is enough space to drop the wires near the bottom of the glovebox, and back up. I found a small removable tab on the bottom of my glovebox that I was able to pop up and route the wires up.
- I placed my Grom unit on the little shelf in the glovebox. I used a large Zip tie and strapped the unit in. I recommend you remove the tray from the glovebox and do all this work outside the car. I really wanted hide it like others have done on this thread, BUT being in IT for 20 years, I was somewhat skeptical, and worried I would be making things harder for myself in case I needed to access it. Good thing I did, because initially I needed to pull the plug on this unit 20 times before I got things under control.

the text sounds will also pause the grom system to play.
the system always reverts back to regular maps and I would have to click media to get it back to CarPlay / or click media and I would have to jiggle the mouse.
I dont remember the version and firmware I’m on but it should be the most current versions that’s offered OTA.
glad to hear that the version upgrade by USB has solved all your problems. I’ll reach out to @gromaudio for assistance. Would you happen to know the version they provided you? Next I’ll prob install some APK for apps too.

I just received my VLine package, so I have to dig out this old thread and ask some questions.
That's very neat, I would like to go one step further and hide the whole elektronics, did you find any space behind the dashboard, that's big enougth to fit the additional electronic box.
I don't know about hdmi in but the out port is for additional screens like headrest screens for the back seats.
Front facing cameras must be FBAS analog cameras.
But there's something I really can't solve yet. A good position for the GPS receiver.
I found the picture below and got some questions.
The position of he GPS receiver looks good but I've doubts about if it is the right orientation. Any other receiver I touched yet had to be orientated with the cable pointing to the back of the car (for North/South orientation of the compass) and the glue side has to face down and not up.
So does this orientation delivers good connections and the right data?
Last Questions is about the GPS connection Cable. How did you route it behind the cover down the A - pillar. What about the curtain airbag, I'm a little affraid of removing the cover and demage the airbag. Further down, where did you route the cable into and behind the glovebox. Could you please show us more pictures?

Thank you for using GROM product!
1. Do not leave the unit inside the dashboard. There are few reasons:
a. The unit might get damaged, such as its Bluetooth antenna;
b. The Bluetooth might not get a good reception if the unit is "buried" inside the dashboard;
c. You might want / need to access the unit ports in the future such as for the USB update, connecting HDMI, etc..
2. GPS antenna needs to face the sky. The easiest is to place it on the dashboard in the far right corner. On some of our installations we were able to hid the GPS receiver on top of the dashboard beneath the plastic top. The goal is to make sure there are no metal obstacles between the GPS antenna receiver and the sky.
Here is a good video that shows the GPS antenna mounting on the top:
(we know it is Nissan, but just to give you an idea).

On post#921 it was said that GROM is less on audio quality than stock ML.
I listen a lot of spotify m music via Bluetooth and really enjoy the ML sound. Hope that is the same on carplay Spotify (wired/wireless).
Now I'm getting my doubts.
Thanks In advance for any shared experience on this.
