That would be fantastic. Does anyone know if the wireless AA or CarPlay connection is simply via bluetooth?

Via WiFi I believe. BT is too slow.In order to achieve a wireless connection between your phone and your car, Android Auto Wireless taps into the Wi-Fi functionality of your phone and your car radio. That means it only works with vehicles that have Wi-Fi functionality.

Compatibility is further limited to specific car radios and phones that are designed to work with the system.

YAY! I have a Samsung Note 8 which is compatible with Wireless AA.

I believe I read once that it's a combo of bluetooth and wifi. But I just watched a video on wireless CarPlay from a Pioneer head unit just to get an idea of how it works, and as soon as he connected the iPhone to the unit via bluetooth, the iphone asked if he'd like to use wireless carplay. So maybe only bluetooth?

BT doesn't have the bandwidth capable to handle wireless Car Play/Android Auto. Wireless is nice for shorter trips, but for long trips I still prefer to plug my phone in to get it charged. Regardless, it's nice that GROM is throwing us a bone with new features.

It's going to be Bluetooth. Connecting to WiFi will stop outside connection from LTE and will provide no service via carplay , AA. Pioneer units and the new VW stock carplay uses Bluetooth . I bought a dongle from ali express that allowed it, but its very laggy 3rd partying with vl2.

Yes, I'm playing Spotify offline right now. You just have to Click Allow download on Cellular.

Thank you for your email.

It will be firmware update, there will be no need to update the hardware. Please stay tuned for our announcements.

Thank you.
That’s awesome news! More reason to be excited about this! I presume it will be via Bluetooth. Most of the third party dongles use Bluetooth. So we’ll see

What about wireless Android Auto? The newer version of AA had wireless connection option you can enable.

Good write up. How do you get Carplay to work? I installed my VL2 and carplay won't work. Everything else works fine. Did you need a dongle? Mine didn't come with one.

You need to press a button 10 times. Search the thread, you'll find it. Sorry I don't use CarPlay. they did this because CP is not officially supported, but it works just fine.

I also heard it supports Android Auto, but you need an app called Headunit reloaded.
Thank you,

I tried the tapping Carplay icon on the Grom Unit 10 times but it didn't do anything. I even tried 30 times. But my Car Navigate isn't touchscreen so I used clicked on it instead. It didn't work for me unfortunately.

Try plugging in a USB mouse. The RT clicker doesn't work well for quick clicking sometimes for me.
