My apple maps NEVER switches to night mode , regardless of whether it is set to auto, or night mode. And i have tried my phone a 6S+ running 13. latest, my wives phone and a coworkers phone, a 11 pro. Who else has this issue? I have a '15 GS350 FSport with ML.
They should be able to get this to work, they have a CAN interface from the car to the VL2, that's how they get everything else from the car.....
Good to hear that I’m not crazy here. I’ve tried my wife’s phone too; same thing!! She has an 11 Pro Max. I hate it when they’re trying to blame things on the phone or even Apple. GROM need to get their ish together
Instead of apple maps matching the rest of the gui
It happens regardless of whether your phone is in dark mode or not. My phone is always set to dark mode, and mt carplay is always set to dark mode too. What year car do you have?

I have a 2017. My wife had a 2019 NX loaner with CarPlay and I was able to test it. Check out the pictures... My car that was at 10pm The NX with OEM CarPlay
You folks need to write to GROM support about this. Carplay switches to night mode based on reported information from the head unit. You can read how people with Ford's would have to turn on head lights (apparently reported to Carplay) to get night mode to turn on until they received firmware updates.
I don't know if the GROM unit can read Lexus's car information, but it should at least be able to "fake it" and perhaps provide a button or time based method to force night mode.

Trust me, I’ve been going back and forth with them about this issue since September and now they’re trying to isolate to to me by telling me they haven’t seen it in their environment. So if you guys that are experiencing it can reach out as well, that would be great

They said the same thing when I filed a ticket after i got tired of searing my eyeballs at night.... I have teh same issue and I have tested with both a 6splus and a 11 pro. And teh previuso poster saying apple changes the map based on the head unit info is right. I think GROM is going to have to fix the apk, or develop their own carplay APK to fix this.
I submitted to them this thread and showed them we all are having this issue. I just updated it and now CarPlay has both Light and Dark features! Power of numbers!!!
Now if I can just figure out why I can't install the latest update. lol Meh, sure I'm not missing much. I use the Grom interface and not Carplay or AndroidAuto. Good news for the rest of you though!
