Yup, it is and was one of the best advanced engine for the time. Its pretty impressive that Toyota is able to still use these engines across the lineup with very minor updates.
I wonder if anyone here has done forced induction (super/turbocharging) on this motor. I can’t find anything, but I’d consider a TRD factory supercharger—if it were available.

RR Racing has a supercharger kit available for our engines, both AWD and RWD.

After reading that terrible thread, no way on God’s green earth.
I’d just get a GS F instead.
I’m more of a proven simplicity guy—bolt on a Roush SC, or TRD SC—done.
Not someone’s Frankenstein test mule or lab rat.
Thats not really the way it works with Toyota/Lexus. Remember the thread from years ago where the guy got the SC, wasn’t it Apexi? Besides GS-F is slower and quieter than mine and it won’t stop snowing so Eddie gets no video. Trying to find a local stock GSF to do a comparison.
Toyota always had a history of making great engines - 4AG, 2JZ, 1UZ.
It is a real shame with Supra, they decided to partner with BMW. Now I'm sure the B58 is going to be a great engine, but slapping a competitor's engine into your halo product just doesn't make any sense to me, especially when you are reviving one of your most legendary models whose key values was reliability, and you're slapping an engine from a competitor which is commonly on the opposite side of that spectrum. I would've been much more impressed if they co-developed the base chassis with BMW, but left the drivetrain portions to their own engineering. I get it, it's all about cost-cutting, but for a product like this, it just shouldn't be.
That's the engine I have, got an extra mpg with it
it sounds different, I could tell right away. As soon as I got home in garage. Both wife and I have JoeZ axle backs and hers sounds more boomy roar, mine is more gruntier Infiniti coupe and I'm still need to get invidia mid pipe.
