On my since returned 14 GS and now on my 16 GS, why is there no button to turn the A/C on and off? I have to go into the Climate controls to turn it on and off. Am I missing something?
Yes that is 1 of 2 ways to turn on A/C, but there is no direct button like the RC/IS models (probably more?) another way instead of going through menu--> climate is that the right side of the navigation bar, button right option you can select a/c off/on there.
By "A/C button", I assume we are referring to a switch to turn the compressor on and off, not a switch to turn the climate system on and off. Is that correct?
That is correct. You should always leave it on. The interior will be better off, not getting outside non-filtered carbon polluted air and vapors into the fabric of the car. Believe me, I use to detail cars for part-time work, and the interior with the most weird smell are the ones with the outside air allowed into the car.

That sounds like you are talking about the difference between recirculation vs fresh air. That function is not dependent on the compressor being on or off.
I agree that it is a pain not having a hard button to turn it off. The car is already underpowered (IMHO) and having compressor loss is not acceptable. If I don't need it, I go to the trouble of navigating to the climate tab to cycle it off. I have the AC to come on (as needed) when switched to AUTO in the Carista app, so I don't have to go to the climate tab to enable it. Makes it a little easier..
If you press the long horizontal button (right below the hazard button) that shows a picture of the recirculating air on one side and fresh air on the other side, it not only cycles between these two modes, but when the "AUTO" light is lit up or not lit up in the center of that button.. it cycles the compressor on and off.. all WITHOUT changing your fan speed. So it's basically like have a dedicated A/C button, you may just need to press this long button twice instead of once.
Not everyone knows about that little trick to cycle the compressor, hence I'm sharing Below is a picture of the long button (right below the hazard button & to the RIGHT of the LARGER "AUTO" button).
Thanks the only way that I know of cycling the compressor on/off & not having the vehicle change the fan speed without having to use the remote touch mouse controller.

Puffydaddy, somewhere along the way, you have clearly become accustomed to powerful cars. I am actually "OK" with the power of my 2015 GS350 F Sport (RWD), but only when I balance that with the purchase price of the car and its fuel economy. While car shopping prior to purchasing the GS350, I test drove a Mercedes Benz E63 AMG. 500+ horsepower and 500+ torque! Every car I test drove after that "seemed" underpowered. After test driving quite a few sport sedans though, the GS won out overall.
I have an ideal to help you enjoy your car's power more. Rent a Toyota Prius and drive it for at least a week, maybe 2 weeks. After that, you'll think your Lexus is the hottest of hot rods!

That's how I do it. I think there is also a setting somewhere that dictates the operation of the compressor as well.
