Default Mirror tip-down in reverse customization not working

This worked in my '13, but in my '15 I can't customize the tip-down angle per the owner's manual. All you are supposed to do is adjust the mirror to the position you want it while in reverse; that position is supposed to be memorized. Not happening; next time I shift to reverse the mirror goes to the default position. Anyone figure this out?

You can't operate the mirror without one or the other selected. I can operate the mirrors; the position is not being memorized.

To set the reverse side mirror tilt-down position - crank-up the car and put it into Reverse and then adjust the two side mirrors for how you like them when you back-up. After adjusting the mirrors for reverse be sure to save the setting into your seat memory... When the car is put back into Drive the two side mirrors will move back to the position you have chosen for normal driving.

Also, if you would like to set a different (2nd) reverse mirror setting (e.g. dedicated for parallel parking next to a curb) you can set yet a different (2nd) tilt-down position and save it to a different seat memory number that (if wanted) can have the same seat positioning [for you] yet it would have a different (2nd) reverse mirror setting.

Remember, that after adjusting the mirrors for your reverse mirror position the setting must be saved to a seat position.

In case you didn't know...

It sounds like it based on the first post, but confirming that the '13 can do this? I noticed both my mirrors went down a bit when I went into reverse. I didn't know adjusting that was even possible. I just got my car a week ago and it was a CPO.

I'll have to give this a try later. Thank you for the clear instructions.

This doesn't work, but it's not what the manual says to do anyway. Just tried it again now...the manual says nothing about the mirror tip-down position being coupled to seat position memory and that's not the way it worked in the '13. I wish it did work the way you describe, but no dice so far.

You are likely doing one of these events:

(1) In selecting the mirror to adjust, you must press the Left or Right switch. Pressing the same switch again will put the switch in Neutral, thereby disabling it.

(2) Adjusting the side mirrors for normal position (other than reverse). The reverse tilt-down position is linked to the normal position. Thus, if the normal position is changed after adjustment the reverse tilt will also change. When the normal position is changed, readjust the angle in reversing.

+1 - You can even press the L or R button (make sure the little led light on the button is lit) while the car is in Park. While the L or R button light is lit, adjusting your mirror for the "tilt" down position. To see the effect of your customization.. just put the car in Reverse (while the L/R button led is lit) so then the mirror will adjust from the normal position to your custom "tilt" position.

If you don't want it to go into that custom tilt position while backing up, just press the L/R button & make sure the little led is not lit. Then when you go into Reverse, the side mirrors shouldn't move at all.

Works on my 13' just fine.

Guys, I know about the little green L/R lights. I also know about "neutral."

I will try this once again, following your suggestions to the letter, and let you know what happens.

It may be disabled in the car ECU. U need to check it with OBD2 tools like Carista app.

Sorry, been away for a few days, but I did have a chance to try this again just now...ItzFilyO wins the door (or should I say "mirror") prize. There is a setting in Carista that toggles between "Default" and "User-defined" for this function; the default is, of course, "Default." After I changed this, the owner's manual customization procedure works, no saving to the seat memory involved. Yay!

What this means is that what was once a user customization (in my 2013 car) now requires a dealer visit if you don't have Carista. More happiness from Mother Toyota.

Thanks to everybody for your input!

See Page 149 in the 2015 Lexus GS 350 Owners Manual. This side mirror reversing tilt angle feature is not a Dealer Only LPS (Lexus Personalized Setting), and thus does not require a dealer visit or Carista to set, adjust or use it. There is no reason why it should be...

Agreed, that's what the book says, but it's not the way my car was setup when I bought it. I could have tried to make it work till the end of time...I seriously doubt anybody changed that setting between the time the car was shipped and the time I picked it up.

I was extremely reluctant to buy Carista, because there didn't seem to be much I needed to change about this car. Wrong! It's now my favorite thing ever.
