Power Trunk Closer. Does it need to be activated?

I was reading threads here and some have it working and some don't. I've always seen it work except on one GS 300.
I am thinking that the Personal Settings, were not set, thus those that don't have it closing automatically, may need to get the dealer to program it.
Just a thought.
Power Trunk Closer
You can use this feature to automatically latch the trunk by gently placing the trunk in the closed position, eliminating the need to force it down.

Yeah the GS power trunk closer is super lame. It doesn't really close the trunk for you, it only latches the trunk. Does anyone with a GS have a power trunk closer that actually closes the lid from the halfway point (which is what it should do according to the manual)?

Has anybody noticed that the trunk lid just drops freely? There is no spring resistant setup keeping the lid open like on a Caddy. So in other words, what do you need a closer for? The lid just drops. You can hold it at 5 inches and drop it and it will close. The GS has always been like this. To have a closer on such a small trunk lid I think would be a joke, unless there was spring resistance of course. I have learned a long time ago that the GS's trunk lid is one that has to be dealt with manually. Because of the way it is designed and its compact design it would be an overkill to add something like that. Just in my opinion.

My trunk lid doesn't close by itself from 5". It doesn't drop freely. I basically have to push it closed almost all the way before the auto-latcher takes over. A trunk closer that actually works would be nice because then I wouldn't have to touch the outside of the trunk lid and get my hand dusty, I could just use the inside handle.

This is interesting because when I saw these posts I wanted to make sure of what I was saying was accurate. I just went down into the garage tested this a few times. Sure enough my trunk drops at around 5 to 10 inches and latches itself into place. The rest of the trunk travel has to be manually adjusted by hand but for me feels like very little resistance except in the upright position. This is weird if you guys don't have any drop at all.

I feel like the trunk mechanism on the gs is so difficult. It really takes some muscle just to lift the thing open, and you have to practically push it all the way up. Then, when i close it, i have to pull it so hard that usually end up slamming it anyways. The automatic trunk closer is just a nice convenience to make sure that it is fully closed. I also wish that the remote release would actually open the trunk all the way with a spring. The button on the remote is also very similar in shape and size to the panic button, so i'm always afraid i'm going to be embarrassing myself by having my car beeping at me. Do you think lexus would be able to loosen the springs up a bit so it wasn't such a task to open the freaking thing?
