This would be awesome for a DIYer, but in reality most people don’t work on their cars nowadays, even with all the info available to them on this vast internet… heck most people don’t even change their own oil anymore!

So even if it said "# 5 cylinder misfire" the end result would be the same for most owners, driving to a mechanic or dealer to get it fixed. This feature would drive the cost of the vehicle up, for a feature that would not be used by a majority of the population, and only works when there is a problem.

Also maybe it wouldnt really be the most marketable feature for the factory to say hey, we're going to give you some great details about your new car breaking down on you in the near future so you can fix it yourself!! And yes, of course they make a lot of money for services after the initial sale.. probably the biggest reason really..

Still personally, I love this idea and this would be a welcome addition to any car I would consider owning!!

It wouldn't cost much, it could be displayed in the dashboard display. Its all ready there, just add into the rotation mix between tire pressure and gas mpg.

I agree! And if it's a loose gas cap that is causing the problem then even a 98 year-old granny could fix it and save herself some grief and not go to the dealer and waste time and money.

I can see how knowing what the Error Code is, along with the explanation for it, would be beneficial and helpful.
