Repeated Tone Symbols
Dialing business calls from the car can be a challenge, especially those that require you to enter tones to join an audio conference. I have these auto-dial sequences set up as contacts on my iPhone 5, but I cannot get them to sync properly to the Lexus hands free system in the vehicle.
(I have a 2014 GSh with Nav and ML.)
The issue seems to be contact entries containing what Lexus calls "Repeated Tone Symbols" (pause or wait, followed by tones).
The contact entry on the iPhone to dial a number, wait, then send a passcode, would be something like "800-555-1212;12345#", using a semicolon as the wait symbol.
The Lexus hands free system expects "800-555-1212w12345#", using a "w" for wait.
If I code the contact entry on the iPhone using the ";" for wait, the contact transfers, but the vehicle system ignores everything after the symbol.
If I code the entry on the iPhone using "w" for wait, it does not transfer properly to the vehicle system, it gets garbled.
I am unable to create or edit these contacts directly on the vehicle system. The edit button does not appear. I believe that this is because the iPhone uses the PBAP Bluetooth protocol to transfer the contact list.
The workaround I have found is to use Siri to have the iPhone initiate the call from its contact entry. The audio still streams over Bluetooth hands free in the car.
