Long story short... Buying new wheels, I don't have the stock sensors. Lexus wants $90/each. I don't want to pay that much.

Ebay and online stores have them for $70-$120 per set of 4.

How do I know which ones will fit our car? Which ones do I buy? What am I looking for?

I know VDO makes sensors for the car, no programing needed, just install it,

 

The ones you can get on eBay are usually ok - they are either refurbished ones with a new battery or just used ones. They usually are the best cost effective option. You will have to get them programmed to your car and with the GS you can only have 1 set registered at a time so if you switch back to your stock wheels for winter you will have to reprogram again.

You can get the techstream tool and do it yourself (or some tire shops will do it for you) or lexus can do it but it's expensive (just because - no real reason it takes a few mins)

If you don't plan on using your stock rims for anything just take the sensors from those wheels.


If you don't have sensors installed your car will drive fine but you will have a warning light on the dash consistently which is very annoying.

 

Also to find out the sensor type go into a dealer or look up online and they can tell you

 

Make sure you get the correct part # 4260730060. New retail around $76/pop from Sewells. Our sensors are newer type so many older one won't work. The cheapest is having a tire shop program it for you when they mount & balance the tires.

 

Just like Jeff said , if u have ur factory sensors, I would take them out and reuse them, thats what I did, its much better and safer, and if u get a new one and they can't program it, ur stuck with $350-400 TPMS's , and I know some shops dont have the up to date tools to program those.

 

I hear America's tire have them cheap. Call them to find out.

You can buy the OEM TPMS from sewell lexus parts and add your clublexus member number and get a discount . I can get 4 TPMS for
$240 dollars.

 

Also if you want cheaper then go to www.tirerack.com and get the TPMS for $200 dollars. They will provide the codes for Lexus to program it. It works flawlessly on my GS350 with winter wheels.
