Default New engine at 25k miles

so the wife comes home a few days ago and asks me to listen to an engine noise

if it had been an old school small block Chevy, I would have said it sounded like a lifter had died

went to the dealer and it took them about 10 minutes to decide it was a rod knocking

said they had seen one other before do the same thing

they took it apart and #5 rod bearing is gone at 25k miles

rebuilt with a new short block

disappointing but I guess no brand can be 100% perfect

dealer and Lexus treated me very well, before, during and after repair

I could not have asked for better treatment

Sorry to hear about that. It's the 1st instance of an engine failure I've read on the GS350. But it can happen to the best of them. Over the past 30 years I've had to have the engine replaced on a Cadillac, a new transmission replaced on a Mercedes, and a transmission replaced on a new Lincoln....all around the 25,000-30,000 mile mark. I was very disappointed in all of them but they were all new cars and all repaired under warranty.

all previous oil changes were at a dealer and I saw the frequency on the Lexus site

all well within normal mileage ranges

no apparent reason for the issue

It doesn't take much to trash a bearing. A tiny bit of debris left over from manufacturing could do it. Of course they are very careful to avoid such things, but it must still happen occasionally.

Stuff like this just happens, but the way the company and the dealer handle it is what really counts. Good thing they took care of you.
