I was washing my 2013 GS today and, while spraying water on the left hand side of the car walking past the fuel filler cap, the car's locking mechanism cycled and the fuel filler cap popped open. The fob was in the car's center console at the time. Only occurred once as I tried to replicate the anomaly several times. I wonder what happened?
I learned to keep my fob well away from my car when I wash it... the first time I washed it, I had the fob in my pocket.. the doors locked and unlocked many times

I think you got close enough to the car that the car thought the fob was in your pocket. Water is a great conductor so perhaps the conditions were just right that it enhanced the signal from the fob.
