Default Ghost in the machine?

I was washing my 2013 GS today and, while spraying water on the left hand side of the car walking past the fuel filler cap, the car's locking mechanism cycled and the fuel filler cap popped open. The fob was in the car's center console at the time. Only occurred once as I tried to replicate the anomaly several times. I wonder what happened?

I learned to keep my fob well away from my car when I wash it... the first time I washed it, I had the fob in my pocket.. the doors locked and unlocked many times

Yea I've learned my lesson to keep the key away from the car while washing too. It gets annoying hearing the car lock and unlock 50 times lol.

I think you got close enough to the car that the car thought the fob was in your pocket. Water is a great conductor so perhaps the conditions were just right that it enhanced the signal from the fob.

I did find that the water made the connection while I sprayed it on the handles. Thought is was kind of funny at first.

I think it has something to do with the door handles detecting a temp. change when the water hits it.

Just put the key fob inside the car & the doors will not lock... But the warning chime is annoying too...
