Default Maintenance Agreement

So, I paid about $2,200 for a Maint agreement (not the extended warranty, which i also bought). Turns out that to use it, I have to always go to the same dealer and I'm not sure I want to do that. I think i'll cancel it. So, I got quotes on all the parts and fluids that were covered for 60,000 miles and it adds up to about $750. That leaves me with $1,500 for other stuff (brake pads, windshield wipers, for example). I like doing the work, so that has a lot to do with it. Called to see what records I need to keep to satisfy the requirements of the platinum warranty. They said I just need a log of the dates and mileage I do the work. Sounds good. Now let's see how much trouble I have getting a refund.

If it's a Lexus policy you can go to any dealer. Some dealers do sell their own, Fidelity or other companies.

My dealer can take the Fidelity as we used to sell it.

Keep the receipts also of all the parts and supplies you bought. I have known some dealers that ask for them to go along with your service records.

Good point. Once i get the refund, I think I'll buy the supplies needed for 4 years/60,000 miles. Then I'll just have one receipt for half the 8-year term of the Warranty.

I use a software on my smartphone to keep track all the service record and mileage logs as well remind me when I need service.
For normal driving you won't need new pads before 75K miles. With the extra $1500 you can invest in all the tools for service your GS.

I have all the tools I need, except for those Lexus-specific special tools. I think one is required for the oil filter. Well, $1,500 should cover the cost for RES+, when that becomes available for the gs.

Maybe you're thinking of the front rotors. They might need to be replaced at 75,000

It all depend on how you driving. My other '09 G37 pass 80K and still on the original pad and rotors. I wish it worn out so I can put on the aftermarket stuff. My driving pretty aggressive, accelerate fast and braking hard but my guess I'm lucky on those stuff. Anyway, they are pretty cheap and we all can DIY.

Yeah, I would def get rid of it as we are now on the 10K maint. I think the maint. package is worthless as it doesn't cover brakes just oil changes mostly.

I've owned quite a few Lexus vehicles and I absolutely would not buy a maintenance agreement...

I use Todo pro on my iPhone. I've been pleased with ease of use the app provides. I keep all my appointments on my phone. Hope I don't lose my phone.
