Default Anyone have trouble pumping gas?

With less than a quarter tank of gas left at the gas station and I flip the automatic pumping lever on (not sure the correct name), the gas stops pumping after 2-3 gallons when I know I need at least 10 gallons until full. When I start to manually pump, it clicks off after 1-2 gallons and continues doing this until I give up and leave with less than a full tank of gas. Happened to me two separate times at two different gas stations about a month apart.

I have an F-sport if that makes any difference...anyone else?

This was an issue with my 2010 ES as well, still an issue with my GS. I let it click off 3 times before I hang up the pump. After the first clickoff it will take another 1+ gallons, and then a little bit the next time, then its full. If it clicks off way early like you describe, try backing the pump out of the filler neck a little and lock it down again.

You'll get used to it. Invariably when I'm driving the Jeep on a trip or something I'll get out after it clicks off and hit the pump again out of habit and spray gas all over the place the first time...since the Jeep fills up before it clicks off LOL.

Thanks, I'll give that a go next time but it doesn't sound like something we should try to get used to...I'll probably bring it up next time I bring it in to service and see what they say. I asked a buddy of mine who is a Lexus master tech at one of my local dealerships and he says no one has come in with that issue yet that he's aware.

Good to know I'm not alone...

I did on the ES, I was told that it was the way the filler neck was designed to keep fuel vapors from evaporating...talked about a lot on the ES forums, and since the GS is the same way it makes sense. I also discussed it with my independent mechanic who is a Lexus Master Tech and he said the same thing.

Once you learn not to put the pump all the way down the filler neck you won't have that problem anymore, squeeze it off two more clicks and its done. No big deal.

This happens to me only at some pumps. Even at the same station, there are pumps that work correctly and ones that stop after a few gallons.

i always believed that the pump stopped when something disturbed the rate of flow. let's say you are pumping gas and the pipe is just a bit off in the fit, then it would cause a bit of backflow that would automatically shut off the pump. just try re-inserting or re-position the pump so that you can get a continuous flow.

hopefully that helps.

Happened to me only once, but I had the car in acc when it happened. Haven't had issues on other cars before but thankfully it hasn't happened again.

No issues here also, I just pumped gas today and it stopped when it was almost full, that problem happens when the nozzle is old, or the pump is old, has nothing to do with the car, I wont worry abt it.

I had a similar issue on my last tank of gas where my tank was merely 90% full...my tank dropped below full after about 20 miles leaving the gas station!
