Thumbs up Grom Vline2

I have owned my 2014 GS350 for over a year now. I have been researching Car Play adapters and such for a while. I recently purchased a Grom Audio Vline2. The package arrived quickly.

The kit included everything I needed. The module was smaller than I excepted (nice) and the wiring was professional and complete. I had watched a bunch of YouTube how to videos. I was ready to tackle what I thought would be a moderately difficult job.

Soooooo here goes. Using a plastic tool the trim around the radio came right off. Phew. The radio itself was held on by 2 10MM bolts. It came out easy and I unplugged the many plugs. No worries there they are all different and can only go back in one way.

I took the trim around the screen off. Super easy. Three of those plastic push pins. The screen was held in by 4 10mm bolts and two plugs.

I took care to figure out and pull the different wires through to the glove box where I mounted the module. I used sticky Velcro it to the top of the box and I was able to sneak the wires through cabin air door. It comes with its own GPS antenna and I found a spot high up under the dash with no metal above it. Nicely tucked away. They recommend a dashboard mounting. Ugly.

I had it all plugged in and the screen would not show the Vline screen. Dang it. It was late Friday. I emailed Grom with some pics.

First thing Monday morning Sean from Grom emailed me back.

Oops I am an idiot. I plugged the blue wires for the screen into each other.

Everything worked perfectly after a short bit of programming.

I have an iPhone 11 and the GPS isn't always accurate.

However the GPS seems to be working flawlessly. I tested in some remote areas and never lost signal.

If you miss having CarPlay, my favorite mapping is Waze, then this is a great alternative. And I am a Boomer. LOL

I asked Car Toys, a local stereo shop how much to install and it would be $600.00. Save your money and do it yourself.

No sorry. I guess I was too busy trying not to break anything. But it was way easier than I thought.

best of luck with grom's support. I've had a ticket open for a year going back and forth when my climate control buttons stopped working, and now they've seemed to completely ignore me. I guess I'll have to go to one of those linux devices or beatsonic instead.

I guess lucky for me they have been very receptive and helpful. However, I hear you. customer service with some is a thing of the past.
