re: 2017 GS F.
Not a big fan of the navigation system, but it would be better if it was up to date.
I believe the last update was from 2017 or 2018.
Would are the options for updating the Navigation Software in the car?
Are OTA updates available? Or USB only?
Is this a dealer service? If so, any idea how much?
Thanks
If you're looking to stay with the OEM nav, i don't believe there are any newer updates but your local dealership will be able to tell you for sure. No OTA updates are available and its a dealer-only install. Here is a helpful post from @bclexus : https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...l#post11142420
If there is a newer update for your '17 your dealership can confirm, the changes will be minimal and likely won't have any of the latest roads and mappings within the last 2-3yrs. Since the GS was discontinued in 2020, there really isn't much incentive for Lexus to continue creating updates for the handful of owners that actually care for the update (most folks aren't even aware an update is possible). Dealers typically charge between $200-$300 to complete the OEM update and its best to let them install it if you go this route.
Lots of owners have gone the route of an aftermarket system (Hamilton, Grom, Beatsonic are most popular) to get integrated Carplay or Android Auto with Google maps.
This thread prompted me to find out what the latest NAV map update version is!
FYI - The latest map update is Version 24.1 and the price is $210 at a Lexus dealership for the genuine Lexus map update on a SD card.
@hpwind - I presume your 2017 4GS has ML audio and takes the SD card in the head unit slot behind the ML logo name lift flap.
My 2018 GS 450h will be in for yearly service soon (Engine Oil & Filter change with engine air filter and cabin air filter check/replace if needed) - and I'll be picking up the latest NAV map update (v.24.1) SD card and updating my NAV myself at home.
With the SD card update it's a simple process of turning Off the car, removing the existing SD card and inserting the new SD card and turning On accessary position - and following on-screen directions which are minimal for loading it, which saves all POIs (Points of Interest).
I understand there are many fake and so-called 'used' (parroted/copied to a SD card) for sale (eBay, etc.) that may not be legit or may not work - and my even brick the NAV/head unit.

@AJLex19 - Whenever I update my NAV map I typically see a number of new streets in newly developed neighborhoods, plus lots of Interstate ramp changes/modifications here is Texas, especially around the DFW Metroplex - where lots of Interstate, tollway and highway construction takes place on pretty much a continuous basis.
Having the latest NAV map can be very helpful when Off and On ramps have changed due to construction...

Lexus as well as most auto manufacturers have given up on updating their native maps since the intro of Apple Carplay and Android Auto since those systems include GMaps and Waze which update on their own. I've gone the Android Auto route and couldn't be happier. Nice having the peace of mind that your map is always updated and didn't have to pay $200+ for it.

FYI - The Toyota/Lexus Navigation Map Update v.24.1 (often branded as the '2025' map update for North America), Part Number 86271-0E077 was released in Spring 2024 with the map data compiled by HERE Technologies in April 2024.
I like my vehicles' NAV systems to have up-to-date map information... Map cost averaging just $4 a week once every few years is not upsetting...

Today (12-8-2025) I updated my Navigation Map from the 2023 version to the most recent 2024 version map update.
If you want to know the SD Card numbers for the most recent (v24.1) map update and the previous (v23.1) map update here it is:
The 2023 Map Version was v23.1 w/ SD Card # 86271-48326
The 2024 Map Version is: 21-44-17 [2024-06-11] w/ SD Card # 86271-48327 (images below of the SD Card & my NAV Screen after updating.
Also, be aware of fake updates (on eBay and other Internet sites), black market copied updates and older maps sold as the latest map updates.
The genuine map updates from Lexus will have Lexus on the SD card as the image below displays.

Switching from Google Maps back to the OEM maps feels like trading a high-def screen for directions drawn on an Etch-A-Sketch by someone in a moving bus.

We have one of those in Atlanta. Called Spaghetti Junction.
