OEM side glass?
Is there such a thing as Lexus OEM door replacement window glass, or just aftermarket?
My passenger window has randomly shattered twice now since Safelite replaced it with non-Lexus branded glass. My insurance company claims that only windshields have OEM replacements, and every other type of replacement glass is by definition aftermarket (but functionally equivalent to OEM). Anyone have experience otherwise?

Insurance companies say some bizarre things

Can't confirm availability (have to call a dealer) but of course Lexus can (or was able to) supply genuine parts including glass.

It sounds like your insurance provider is unwilling to tell you the truth! Of course OEM side window glass is available for your GS 350 from any Lexus dealer.
Maybe your insurance provider only allows aftermarket glass from an installer they have a partnership with like Safelite. If so, why didn't they just say so?

Unfortunately and improbably the aftermarket replacement glass shattered twice randomly with no impact. This is the source of my frustration and question. (The OEM glass was completely broken out a year ago when my car was broken into.)
How do you know there was no impact? Where was the car parked (e.g. public street, home garage, parking garage) when both of the aftermarket replacement glasses were shattered?
That is quite extraordinary, to have two aftermarket glass replacements to shatter with no impact.

As to your question, I knew there was no impact the first time because the glass was completely smooth on the outside. The cracks were internal. Today, when the glass cracked for the second time, I had just closed the door. No impact.
So, either Safelite didn't install the glass properly (twice, with different technicians) or their aftermarket glass is not up to OEM specs. I lean towards the latter explanation.

Yep, it's the laminated glass--included in the winter package which also comes with headlight washers. No tint.
When Safelite replaced the glass in August under warranty, they claimed the original aftermarket replacement pane must have been defective. I had no reason to question that explanation at the time. But two defective panes in a row? Unlikely at best.
No damage to that door that I'm aware of, but I bought the car in 2022. Certainly nothing on the Carfax. No glass issues until the aftermarket stuff was installed.

Simplest explanation is probably the correct one, poor quality glass. But, both times why did the glass crack in the same area? Could mean that part of the glass is slightly more stressed which is why they both cracked there or something else going on.
Have you sent these images to your insurance provider?
Do you have a local insurance agent you have engaged to handle your insurance needs, including possible claims? If not, you really should consider dealing with a local agent for your insurance in the future - then at least you'll have someone to hopefully go-to-bat for you when the need arises...and in situations like this you can visit your agent face-to-face in their office which is always beneficial to receive personal attention.

I’ve got USAA. My situation doesn’t make sense to them so they aren’t particularly interested. For all they care I can just keep replacing glass ad infinitum under the Safelite warranty.
