hello all,
i wanted to see if any of you had some suggestions on replacing the black pillar trim? on the passenger side, the paint is simply beginning to peel. have any of you had this experience, and if so...what did you do? i can see an auto body shop charging an arm and a leg to replace, but i dont know? just looking for some feedback. thanks a lot!!
I would get a quote from a body shop but you can easily replace them yourself, if you're comfortable. And they are not that expensive, well at least the 4th gen.
OP, are you referring exterior or interior part of the pillar?
I was bit surprised to find some thin (silver) wrapping material peeling off the exterior side pillars on the windshield
and I thought this was done aftermarket.
ibidu1, are you saying this was actually OEM work?
Mine is only peeling slightly on edge of few spots, but it's good to know that I can replace this.

I am assuming its a vinyl wrapped from the factory, because there isnt any etching primer underneath to indicate that it was painted.
There was a member who completely peeled his trim and cleaned up the metal underneath, and liked the look of it bare.
More likely easiest way to remove the rest is by using heat gun on low setting, and a plastic scraper. If mine had peeled I would just wrap it, and tucked the edges cleanly.
I don't think it's vinyl wrapped unless someone out there makes a very stiff and durable vinyl out there. The attached video is for an LS but I think the finish on the pillar covers is the same.
Judging from that video posted above it seems that “vinyl, plastic “ or whatever it is will be hard to remove. I’ll look at ordering a new or used part before trying to tackle that job. Of course some people are up for the task but it ain’t me
