Default Light Sensitivity settings

Does anyone know if the '08 GS had the option to adjust light sensitivity of the auto-on headlights. Can't seem to find the setting, and if it doesn't exist I think I might just tint the sensor a wee bit to make it think it's darker than it is

There is no such setting in the onboard screens, but you can change that with the manufacturer software (Techstream). You need a J2534 OBD cable and the software. Once you do, there is a section for lighting sensitivity. It goes from Dark 2 to Light 2, representing the amount of light necessary to turn on the headlights. They didn't come on fast enough in a tunnel for my taste so I've put them on Light 2, and they come on sooner.

Of course you can also go to a dealer or a shop who has the software to do it.

fantastic thanks for that, I've been really interested in getting my hands on some of that software and a cable but not sure which one to get because I've read about a few problems. Thanks PauloFR!

No problem! I use the VXDiag VCX Nano wireless connector. You can either buy a laptop with Techstream, or like I do, just install it on yours if you have one. And no need to have Windows XP or any old-as-the-hill OS, it works perfectly fine with Windows 10. Techstream itself can be found on eBay.

Found this one, but does nos instill confidence with the capability of this product, given your experience in suggesting WIN10 and it's description of "recommended" OS's kind of thing. Don't want to waste my money on something that won't be compatible and seeing what you opinion is on this source for the cable.. Maybe you have a link to one that is a guaranteed win?

The Mini VCI cable is known to work well with Techstream. Strangely enough, this one's page doesn't mention the SAE J2534 protocol nor any newer OS. The description may just not be accurate or out of date. This cable with transparent plugs is sold by many brands on many sites, but I believe it is the same.

To be sure, you can look at this video's description, he has a working setup with this cable (or at least it looks like it) and a VM with W10

I bought the connector I use here.

I think this is possibly why some have had the problems I've heard of, from another site, a statement about the cable we are talking about. So I suppose the question is what is my car running to match the FTDI RL vs. RQ?

Note:
Our two products are the same except for the chips.
One 16 Pin MINI VCI for TOYOTA With FTDI FT232RL Chip and another with FTDI FT232RQ.
Please purchase according to your needs.

Do you still talk about the ad from the link you posted earlier? I see they only sell one variant.

No that was from this ad here... https://www.ebay.com/itm/MINI-VCI-J2...sAAOSwjRJfAvlg

Can easily get either from many places, but I seem to have exhausted my ideas on how to figure out if I need the RL or RQ.

I looked that up and I think it doesn't matter. According to the videos's comments, what matters is having a cable with a v2.0 firmware instead of the v1.4. I found some cables with this firmware on Amazon but not on eBay (or there could be but many don't mention that in their description). Or I may be wrong and v1.4 cables could work, but I don't know everyone's car, OS and Techstream version from people in the comments. I actually purchased one at the time but I was refunded because the parcel has been lost. So I wasn't able to test it

Hmmm. I just pushed the button on one so watch this space I suppose I ended up getting this one for the record... Went with the RQ (updated chip to RL apparently), and is running v1.4. I'll be gutted if it was meant to be the v2.0, I did it last night before seeing this message so I guess I'm the guinea pig LOL
