Lexus GS300 check plug stripped
Hi, I am servicing my mums car, just to be correct I want to measure how much fluid is in the gearbox. Funny part is I did put a new plug in last time and now its stripped. Anyone knows how to remove the Allen plug that is stripped.
Did you use a regular allen key, or did you use the type with the socket end? Using the socket type with a ratchet you lesson the chance of stripping. The socket type you can try to tap it in with a hammer and gives a better bite. If the allen head is badly stripped sometimes hammering in a torx bit that is slightly larger, what that will do is cut teeth into it. If that doesnt work and if you have a welder, you can genlty cold tack weld a large nut to it, but remember theres plastic behind it, a light tack and let it cool a bit, and repeat. Lastly is to remove the fluid pan and replace it.
Or you can just drain and measure it, and replace what you drain with a slight bit extra. This is the approach I would do, and did on my car

Bummer the torx trick usually works! But after watching this video, and seeing what the bolt looks like. It does have some thickness to it! What you can do is, grab a sharpie and paint the whole head, then grab a sharp metal scribe or a pick or sharp nail. Scribe six lines on the nut to resemble a hexagon, then with a cut off wheel on a dremel, cut the lines and you then you should be able to grab a socket that fits and easily unbolt it.
If it can help, Project Farm made some great showdowns of broken nuts and screws removal tools. You can jump directly to the conclusion if you want, I watched them entirely and the best ones really work great:
