my 08GSh has the left mid pipe replaced already before I bought it. If it is like my 2GS4 it is the steel clamps that hold the heat shields in place that aggravates the rust holes.
I patched my 2GS4 with band clamps and it lasted 328k miles. Keep the stock pipe if you can.

That sucks, I have some leak near the muffler also, so I was just planning to change the whole thing. Would this work if I buy a new set of OEM muffler and connect it to a stainless steel Nvidia or megan midpipe. it would be a cheaper alternative than spend 3000cad on a new oem full exhaust system. And which would be less noisy?the Nvid or Meg midpipe?
You can weld mild steel to stainless, its not ideal and wont last aslong, but its doable. Its best to use stainless welding wire, and you can use regular. Why dont you take it to a good muffler shop and have them custom make you an exhaust. Wont hurt to get a couple of price quotes and see what they can offer.
