Default Expensive F-sport air filter worth it?

I need an air filter, I'm wondering if the $70 one does anything more than dirty up your MAF. I know they also sell a $350 cold air intake kit, just a straight duct. I could probably make that out of sheet metal tubing.

Honestly, you're not going to notice a power difference. The only plus is that it's reusable, but with that comes the possibility of the junked up MAF with the oils, as you mentioned. I wanted to get one for my 460, but it turns out they don't make one that's a direct fit (350's air filter has rounded edges, and the 460's are sharp). After searching for hours, and getting lots of mixed answers, I figured it wasn't worth it. The stock filters do a great job. If you've got other things that you've been eyeing, I'd go with those and save your money. Just my personal .02.

I thought so. I ordered Denso air/cabin filters from RA, they are inexpensive. The filter looks like it was never changed in a long time, I'm surprised Lexus never changed it. It is very dirty and I took the lower box out of the car to clean it. Bolts were a bit rusty, had to PB them. Put them back with anti-seize. Lots of debris. Filter is in over 50K miles by the service records, sure looks it! I tapped it on the pavement and it left a pile of debris. The top looks very clean though. Maybe that is why my MPG sucks, barely 16 in the stop and go city in the cold.

There is also a secondary filter in the top of the housing. I guess they don't want to take any chances for the careless mechanic that leaves it out. Before I started to DIY I had places do careless things with cars, that is another story.

$70 for one or two HP? Someone wrote that the whole kit maybe gives a handful of HP at most. Denso Filters are $9. You also need some cleaning chemical too.

Thanks for the info, wasn't trying to be snarky. I thanked your post.

My bad, probably the TOM's filter I was referring to here. I looked at so many aftermarket filters that my eyes began to cross. Still, I'm all for the stock filters.

I thought the cleaning chemical was oil. Seems like a very expensive gimmick.

Yeah, and not to be THAT guy, but honestly, more air flow usually means more particles getting through. Part of the reason why I stopped my search was because I read several different forums that discussed oil test results from Blackstone, after using a high-flow filter, and it showed an increase in unwanted particles. I'm not professional on this, nor am I claiming the F-sport filter will do that to your car, but I see how it's very possible. I'll just play it safe and stick to OEM filters.

You're right TRD, more airflow=more particulates going into your engine.

Thats the risk if you DO want more airflow though....

I knew this purchasing my K&N filter (I got it for $10 so I couldn'tp *** on it).

I haven't touched it since I first purchased it (I believe they said 50k miles per wash), with the exception of occasionally vacuuming it.

I'm giving a heads up though, just because you get more airflow doesn't mean you get more HP lol... Our cars automatically detune itself back to factory specs anyways.

Are you trying to get a more aggressive engine sound? If so I'd do the 4GS Fsport intake mod which is 1/2 the cost. It is a direct bolt on.
I enjoyed the mod for the brief time I had my GS350 before moving to an LS460. I felt a little more power gain once the computer adjusted to the intake

Oh yes, I have done this from when I had one sitting around from an IS. I agree of a harder pole, and definitely gives more engine sound!
