Headlight turns off while driving in dark
2006 GS300. My left headlight periodically goes off after driving for a while. I don't know how long. It has been checked out by mechanic, however, found nothing wrong and couldn't duplicate the problem.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

It's your Ballast.
Had one on the driver's side replaced last week. Also ordered two fresh Toshiba HID 4300K bulbs while the bumper was off.
My mechanic did the job for $200 labor. I could've done it myself but I didn't have the tools nor time. My HIDs are performing with no issues since the replacements. Even though the light temperature is the same, they appear fresher and brighter. I love em.
Ordered from a highly rated vendor on Amazon
Ballast $74.99
Toshiba D4S HID bulbs 4300K OEM RECOMMENDED
$89.00
:EDIT if cost is a concern for you then you can just replace the Ballast leave the existing HIDs in place and that will remedy the problem. I personally chose to get new HIDs in addition to a new Ballast because they were never changed by the previous owners.

Sounds like a bad ballast to me, my car was doing exactly the same when my ballast said bye bye.
I decided to replace both just to have both with a fresh start and to avoid the hassle to take down the bumper again, got brand new ballasts and brand new Phillips Xeneco D4S bulbs and they work like a champ again.
Got all on flebay for 120 from this guy:

message him maybe he got some extra pairs around.
BTW, when replacing the ballast and before you start to scratch your head like crazy, you will notice that the ballast igniters are routed in a very "SPECIAL" way there you can just put them out, before you decide to take apart your ballast and desolder the connection, there is a pin that you can loose and it will easily come out.
you can find the details on this thread (check the 4th pic)

Hope it helps!
