Bump. Is this dust shield absolutely necessary?

Based on reading on different forms and my experience - I would day it is good to put the dust shield back - why?
1. It would protect your hub bearing from all the dust and heopfylly it would last long.
2. BUT more importanntly - without this dust shield, ABS sensor will also get exposed to dirt and it could cause false reading down the road causing issue with ABS modules trigerring all sort of warnings.
3. If I would do it again, I would take the whole knuckle off again and work on it when you can easily see things and set the dust shield correctly.
4. If dust cover does not slide over easily - you can heat it up and then try it again. I have successfully used heat to press the shield back on. Please make sure you test out putting the ABS sensor in the hole before you install the knuckle back because it would be easy to re-align the dust shield if needed.Confirm that ABS sensor fit snug.
5. Key point - please clean the ABS sensor tip of any dust or dirt or metal pieces. Clean the hole as well if needed.

Exactly. Im doing mine now. I have removed the entire hub assembly. It is much easier to work on. And it’s given me a reason to put my press together. Dust deflector definitely needs to be pressed in.
