Oil Change Interval w/ Synthetic beyond 5000 miles?
Hey everyone:
I know there's similar threads but I couldn't find anything exactly to what I'm looking for. I'm going to start doing my own oil changes on my '07 GS350 AWD but my buddy was very surprised that the oil change interval (OCI) is everyone 5000 miles/7500 KM. His year old Caddy ATS OCI is 15000KM.
Has anyone increased their OCI well beyond 5000 miles without any troubles or hiccups (or better yet received any confirmation from Toyota that it's safe to)? If so, would you just use full synthetic or would you use something that specifies for a longer OCI (such as Mobil 1 Extended Performance).
Thanks in advance!

It depends on your engine condition. The best thing to do is get an oil analysis done blackstone-labs has a kit you can send an oil sample to. They will analyze your oil and report what is wearing and how long you can extended your oil changes to. Its more accurate to start a trend meaning sending another oil sample at the next oil change. So you may need to send at least 2 or 3 samples

I do my own oil/filter changes on my 09' GS. I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5W 30 and change at 5000 mile intervals. I figure that IF I end up with an engine issue...I will be much more likely to get "help" from Lexus corporate if I've followed the factory recommended maintenance guidelines. (I document ALL maintenance, keeping receipts of all parts and mileages, etc)
I would think that using the "extended life" synthetics that you would not have an issue stretching out your change intervals...but I'd rather play it safe. Plus, the shorter intervals keep me under the car more often which may help me stay on top of others issues I may not otherwise have noticed.
In addition, I'm a touch worried about "consumption issues" by these motors and think that with shorter change intervals...I would negate any small losses in oil levels, and less likely to be on the road when the "low oil pressure" light comes on.
Yes, I'm a worry wart.

I've used Eneos in my '14 Mazda6 and gradually increase my OCI to 15K after the Blackstone results. They easily said I've could have done 20k since the oil didn't break down too much.
This largely depends on the oil you use tho. Some synthetic may break down a lot faster than 5k or 10k. It's best to get Blackstone to analysis the metal content of the oil and go from there or see what they would recommend.
I highly doubt I would do that kind of OCI on my GS300. By the time I reach 5k, I would have already added 1.5 quart of new oil. Imagine doing that 4 times to until the 20k change.
I also think the oil change interval for the US market is short. I've notice that some countries, their OCI is 10k and up. It's probably due to some emission standards or something.

My 2011 GS350 has 35000 miles, I use mobil1 synthetic, its at 5500 miles since I did the oil change and my dip stick still shows its almost full. Is this normal? And I did pour whatever amount the manual said. I guess its a good thing my car isnt burning oil? Im waiting for the test kit to arrive to do the oil analysis with blackstone.

Hmmm I'll stick with my 7-8000 KM OCI... forgot the fact that my engine burns oil. I usually have to top up around 1-2 litres in between changes which is a bummer.
