Okay so this is my second car, I stepped up from a civic. And I'm 21 so cut me some slack if I sound like a noob. I'll get there..
I'm looking into getting a full exhaust system. But I want to take my time with it.
Not sure how most people afford these kids but I can only do one at a time.
So first off. I want to get a Invidia midpipe. Okay that's affordable. Next I have to get a muffler? I think I want the HKS hi power.
So when doing these upgrades do I need to hook them up all at once? Later on I think I want to put on a performance header so can I put the exhaust on now and header later? Will it work... I'm crying right now I feel like I'm asking stupid questions. But anyways.
That's the first mods I want to do. Second would be a k&n filter. Are there any recommendations on exhaust set ups? Is it true the more expensive the parts the better the performance?
Congrats on the GS ! From my knowledge you can bolt on certain mid pipes to stock exhaust. So if you wanted to get the mid pipe first and install it and wait till you get the exhaust , that should be fine. There is a Megan mid pipe and Invidia . I am sure there are a few more brands out there. The HKS exhaust has huge tips, not sure how good it will look on the stock body. Honestly you should spend your money on other things than an exhaust. Your not going to get much HP improvements over stock.
I think your first mod should be an intake or drop in air filter. K&N full intake seems like a nice choice but I would go with the f-rsport cold air intake. Although I had the drop in filter and I hated to oil the filter and possibly damage the sensors. If you really want it, I can sell it to you cheap. I got the F-sport drop in filter and its easy to clean and no oiling required. You should try a Joe z intake tube and f-sport filter. Nice combo and not to expensive.
Go to eBay find a invidia mid pipe, call invidia and ask if its a legit seller should only be like 250 bucks shipped. Put it on and then buy a cat back from redline360.com you can get a Megan cat back full stainless for like 350. Both of these are straight bolt ons you can out on with a decent floor Jack and jackstands. Honestly the guy above me has no idea what he is talking about. You will notice a massive difference from putting on the midpipe and catback. Like its a whole new car, "more power from a drop in k and n filter" lolol bro. Then save up some cash buy a typhoon intake on amazon for like 275 and install that. That's the set up I have, def loud, had to dynamat my whole trunk to help with the drone. But even without dynamat you can't hear it above music. My advice is just do it, you won't be bummed.
Here's a sound clip of mine, a real clip, start up, rev, and sound under full acceleration. With the exhaust intake and softer tires my GS put down a 13.91 at the quarter mile. Def not impressive but considering its all bolt ons and still gets 27+ mpg on the freeway no too shabby

First of all before calling me out , you should have actually read my post. Apparently you did not read my post correctly. I was simply stating HP improvements VS the amount of money you spend on the mod.

No I read it, replacing a drop in filter adds 0 hp. It may change the power curve barely but adds no HP. And you said that changin exhuast doesnt do much, which is definitley wrong. What exhaust do you have? Just always find it funny how many people on this forum comment about intakes, exhaust, coilovers, etc but don't even have any on their car. This thread is to help lil homie modify his dope new Lexus so keep it to that aight. BTW OP that lex is clean congrats.

Thanks for the vid. Just what I needed. I think I rather do the bolt on option instead so I could save myself some money paying for labor.
I was really looking at this https://www.vividracing.com/catalog/...FYElgQodX_wAzg
Looks like it's a complete set up mid pipe + muffler
Couldn't find a Invidia midpipe on eBay for $250 but I found one on Amazon for $385
Invidia 06+ Lexus GS300/350 Exhaust Mid-Pipe 70mm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005D1WI74..._sJXGwbETAYYMJ It's 70mm not sure what size I need but it says it fits
Yup that midpipe is the one 385 still a good price, thats the same Megan axle back I have that you posted but its 400 bucks cheaper at redline360.com at 449.99 so go there plus everything I've ever ordered from them comes on like 2 days every time. Basically 900 bucks after tax and you have a car that sounds as good as mine lol. All you'll have to do is Jack up the rear, unbolt the exhaust at the front cats, take off the support brace and slip mufflers off the hangers. Then just bolt the new system up. Order that mid pip and the Megan axle back and that's everything you need , all gaskets and hardware are included, just need a 14 mm ratchet and 2-3 hours of free time and you're there breh here's a pic of the underside of the car. I don't know the size of the tips but its basically the biggest that'll fit the cutouts in the bumper without burning or hitting it.
Doing just the mid pipe will remove some resonators so you will get a different sound than stock but basically just under full load/throttle. In my opinion do it all at once but you can do one then the other. I would do mufflers first if you want more aggressive sound and then you have bigger tips which seems to be something you want. Another option is to just get the typhoon intake, I can hear my intake more than my exhaust when accelerating. I'm just a fan of collecting parts and doing it all at once so I don't have to disassemble/reassemble multiple times but no harm in doing it one at a time.
