Default MPG seems pretty low...

I have a 2007 GS350 AWD, i noticed for a while my MPG has been getting really ****ty.... I'm averaging about 14.5-18mpg I drive mostly local sometimes highway probably 75/35? I put 93 octane and did the oil and filter change 600 miles ago using 5-W30 or 5-w20 shell oil i think. Could my rear calipers be seized again? It feels a lot better than sinking to the floor after i replaced them. I rarely try to use the A/C to conserve some fuel. I know this is a heavy car and edmund says fuel economy should be 18city... I do have one recall left i think the fuel sensors (which ever the latest recall would be) info on your MPG will be greatful too. any tips?

I have an 06 GS300 RWD and almost ALL my driving is running around town, stop and go, stop light to stop light, 45 mph max. Basically suburban residential driving. I get about 18 mpg. I did take two trips to San Diego last week which is about 150 miles round trip from my house. My tank average on this tank of gas was 31 mpg when I got back from the second trip Monday afternoon. But three days of around town driving and my tank average is back down to 25 mpg. So yours might be a little low or not, but certainly not out of the realm of possibility if you're stuck in a lot of traffic.

Blade: Have you changed your spark plugs? The last recall was for the fuel sensors which was more of a safety issue to prevent a fire from fuel leaking. Worn/old spark plugs will affect gas mileage poorly. I get the same mileage you're describing in city driving (on highways I can average around 28-32mpg) but I too am changing my plugs this week. Hopefully it is a noticeable bump in fuel economy, and acceleration as others have mentioned.

I guess you got a point but 18mpg sounds amazing. apparently even my 2014 sienna AWD get 18-20mpg all around and its mostly city suburban too. for My GS I guess i'm usually on suburban areas just like my minivan. the roads are sort of hill like so i guess i got that. hmm. I do get a bit of traffic and since its NY I am going mostly like 20-45mph (shh i'm breaking the 25mph law )

Plus I believe the AWD is a bit poorer in the MPG department than the RWD, so that might explain your slightly lower MPG.

I haven't changed them myself but I was hoping that the dealership would had. I forgot which milage was but it said the did... then again you can't trust the dealerships... which spark plugs did you use? Is it an easy process? I've done the rear caliper changes and a broken lug nut thread change so hopefully this might be easy.

I bought these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331424735498?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Same part number for the GS. You have to be careful that you know exactly where they come from because eBay is littered with auctions for fake "OEM Toyota/Lexus" plugs that look like the real thing. These are from a huge Lexus dealer in Scottsdale.

Yeah, at the dealership. I don't understand your eBay skepticism at all. You sound like my MIL. I bet I've purchase a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of stuff off eBay. Maybe more than that. I think I've had maybe two bad transactions in 15 years. Hell, the link I provided you was Bell Lexus of North Scottsdale. eBay is simply a marketplace for vendors and regular people to sell their wares. I've purchased oil filters, air filters, spark plugs, cabin air filters, engine cowl clips and a new gas cap from Bell Lexus using eBay. All OEM factory parts. They're fantastic. I don't have a local Lexus dealer even though I live in SoCal.

What exactly is your skepticism? In any case, I'm sure if you picked up the phone and called them, they'd be happy to ship them to you and take your credit card over the phone. That's the lowest price I found from a Lexus dealer.

Is that low for AWD? then again sustain 80-85mph takes around like 2,500rpms - 3,000 rpms... thanks for input!

I guess you got a point. IS350 and GS350 are the same engine so they should use the same spark plugs... For the DIY It says i need a spark plug socket do they sell those too?
