Look carefully. Anyone notice the rear view mirror (inside) has black skid marks, lines, and dots and other crap under the mirror surface?

it doesn't hinder visibility yet, but I wonder if there will be a recall in the future.

searching the internet, I can't find this affecting any car except lexus. Must have been a bad supplier.
Looks like the IS had the same crap....

Everyone please help report this to the NHTSA for recall consideration. Mirrors should have crystal clear visibility, amirite?

yes, theres a tsib for it I believe. your service guy, if he is nice, will do it for you under SAFETY ISSUE on the vehicle.

If the dealership wants to charge you an arm and a leg, an alternative in the 3GS subforum to a place that repairs them for $100 last I checked. Maybe cheaper.

GL!

I will ask my service guy when I do the engine recall.

I hope the tsib calls for a differently manufactured mirror rather than the exact same mirror, because in the latter case, it will turn black again within 5 years.

My older es300 has auto dimming mirrors and doesn't have all this crap on the mirror. Must be a cheap supplier

All cases of this happening seem to be in locations where it is extremely hot all most of the time it seems.

Ha funny! My 06 is doing the same thing. I thought the previous owner place a sticker of some sort and pulled it off which made the mirror look that way. Same exact line on the bottom such as yours.

Temp get past 120 here and mine still looks great. It's been an AZ desert car for 7 years.

I thought I was the only one but mine isn't that bad. I'm way out of my extended warranty so I doubt they'll touch mine. I may go back to the broadway mirror as a fix plus better rear view angle.

They aren't scratches. The Electro-chromatic portion of the glass (dimming glass) is deteriorating. I worked for Lexus in Denver for 9 years and never saw one. I moved to AZ and its running rampant! The Heat kills them and the navigation touch-screens

oh great. the touch screen too?

i'm sorta disappointed that no service advisor ever told me about this tsb considering the number of times I've taken my car in during the warranty period.
I'm going to call them out on that, and hopefully they can get this fixed on Toyota's dime.
