Lexus GS 350 2008
After an oil change from Lexus in (New York) I noticed a rattling sound coming from the engine, took it back to them and they said there is nothing wrong. Paid $150+tax for an engine diagnose at another lexus dealer and again they say engine is fine.
Few weeks later engine light came on "engine light check VSC" and the rattling sound became louder and a slight fast. Took it to the 3rd party warranty mechanic and they scanned to read the codes:
DTC P0019
P0017
CRANKSHAFT POSITION - CAMSHAFT POSITION CORRELATION.
The guy told me the timing is off on the timing chain/belt (something – I really didn’t understand the technical stuff) and also said there is a recall for this problem "intake VVT Actuator Gear" so you should take it to lexus and they will fix it with no cost. I called Lexus to find out if there is a recall on my vehicle and they said yes there is one for the "intake VVT Actuator Gear".
My question is does anyone know if these codes are related to this recall? Would this really fix the problem with the engine light and the rattling sound "tak tak tak tak"? Or is these are two separate problems?
Yes this will fix the intial (2-3 sec) rattle you get when you cold start the engine. But with your car it seems pretty severe and I wouldnt drive it, only to the dealership for the recall work. Call them and schedule an appointment, if I were you I wouldn't mention anything about CEL
Thanks ibidu1. I am taking my car next week and not driving it at all.
Regarding not to mention anything about CEL they will see it eventually when I drop off my car to the dealer.

So are these codes related to this recall?
Clear the codes before you take the car in. Disconnect the battery or take it to auto parts store and have them erase them
