Lexus Recall
I picked up my car last night from Lexus of Escondido. My car was clean, full of gas, and runs like a champ. The whole process was handled very professionally from beginning to end.
I also needed a new battery because the old one was failing. That was replaced under the 4 year/50,000 mile warranty. The car starts crisply and drives smoothly. I don't remember it running this good when I bought it. Idle seems to be about 200 rpm faster now. Perhaps the engine is adjusting to the new battery.
I still have engine noises, but nothing like what I had. I still get about 30 seconds of faint valvetrain noise before it finally settles and quiets down. I also hear a lot of direct injector noise, but that lower valvetrain noise is still evident once the engine is warm. I am not going to worry about things. I still have 60,000 more miles to go before I am out of warranty, so I am going to enjoy my car.
I am now going to start using a good grade of synthetic oil. This Lexus dealership uses conventional Mobil 5W-30 oil as the standard, and I would like something a little more robust. I am looking at AMSOIL synthetic, as this is what I ran on both of my last GS400's. It may quiet down a little with better oil. I hope so!

2010 GS350. Purchased 6/26/2013 with 33,000 miles on it. I had 2 previous GS400s. One had 97,000 miles when it was totaled. The other had 59,000 miles at purchase in 2004, and lasted until 6/26/2013 with 300,000 miles on it.
I am getting used to this 6 cylinder engine. It is strong, but not as smooth as the V8's. The intake cam gears were replaced, but I think they kept the same chain, and the oil was not changed under the recall.. But I did get a full tank of gas...

Seem to have an UPDATE:
I got a call from the service director telling me they will to a complete tear down next week figure out what needs replacing, and the cost will be picked up by Lexus. Im still sceptical.
I guess they now see it my way as far as the timing bolts backing out is the cause of the pistons meeting the valves, and the one of the rockers shattering. The initial conversation with the service writer was... "they have nothing do to with eachother...."

Dropped off 2010 GS350 on Friday morning, Brought it in for check engine lights continuing to pop on with the slip light. Was told about the recall. Just received a call that they will have the vehicle until Wednesday... to enjoy the loaner.
Hope this solves all the issues. Lexus of Austin. ES350 loaner.

all the performance settings were reset to default with the battery out. Car will relearn your grandma driving habits.
Everyone should record their engine noises before sending it in for recall. Then compare to after.
Mine was very subtle and it is very quiet now after the recall
Getting my car back today. Having the spark plugs replaced at 70k with a discount since they have it broken down already. They are charging $238.00. and getting the rear differential changed too for $92.00. Is that really a deal? lol.
