Default Sunroof operation?

Went to look at a GS300, and came away a bit perplexed at the sunroof controls.
Up obviously opened it upwards, but as it wasn't a one-touch operation, pressing down also retracted it.
There didn't seem to be a defining click/clunk that gave an indication it was okay to stop pressing the button.
The same thing worked in reverse - open retracted it, but close pressed too long, opened it the other way again.

Is this really normal behaviour or should the two sets of buttons operate completely independently?
On the basis of this being how Lexus have "engineered" the operation of the sunroof, I'd be feckin' scared witless of using the thing, for fear of leaving it not fully closed, and rainwater getting in round the seal.
Mind you, if the drains are working fine, there'd be no water in the car itself, but even so!

Pity the SE-L came with a sunroof as standard, as aside from losing headroom, there's this to be slightly concerned with as well.
Anybody want to calm my fears?

The battery was disconnected and the sunroof wasn't reset.
Like the door windows... it also needs to be reset.

Open and hold for 3 seconds, close and hold for 3 seconds (I think that was the reset for it.) its listed here in the forums someplace.

Edit... its in the sticky and its 5 seconds not 3

The moonroof needs to be initialized. Press the slide open button and hold it until it stops on its own. Then continue to hold it for about 5 seconds. If it stops in the open position, close it and hold the button again for about 5 seconds after it stops. This should initialize the one-touch feature.

Just hold the close button. It will tilt up, down, slide open, slide closed, all in one cycle. Do not let go until the cycle is complete. This will reset the sunroof. I've had to do it many times trying to fix my Sat radio and disconnecting the battery each time.

Ah ha....thanks guys.
I'll search for the door windows reset, as I suspect they'd need doing too.
Not sure if I'll go for it - it's black, and solid black at that.
Needs a helluva detail to bring it back to looking good, but then keeping on top of black will be an ongoing battle.

doors are simple. just go to each control panel for each door and roll the window all the way down then up. once you do all 3, you should be able to controll all 3 from the drivers side panel.
