The 4GS is outfitted with a more enthusiastic air intake sound generator (resonator) than the 3GS, and I was thinking about swapping mine just for kicks (and $96). Looking at the parts diagrams, it looks like it would be a clean swap, but I need to research the diameters of the fittings to be sure.
I know some have removed their resonators completely without a problem, but assuming the new one even fits, could it cause any issues with the MAF sensor or anything else that might throw a code?
I am also very interested in this mod, but I think we would need to buy a whole intake tube with the sound maker to make it happen. Comparing our intake to the 4gs intake by the diagram it looks totally different.
Spoke with Darell at Sewell today, and they are already manufacturing an adapter to allow it to fit properly. That's all it needs. He said that they tested it already on the GS and IS and it works exactly as expected.
He said the adapter will be available in about a month.
