Default Memory settings questions

I'm noticing a couple things different with the memory settings on my '08 GS350 compared to my previous car, which was an '07 GS350. On the '07, if I grabbed the driver's door handle, the memory positions would start adjusting. With the '08, nothing starts moving until I physically open the driver's door, then everything starts adjusting. Also, on the '07, if I sat in the car, with the door shut, without starting it, I could press one of the memory buttons and it would register. With the '08, the buttons won't work unless the car is running. They do work if the car is off and the door is open though. Are these things normal on the '08?

My 2008 does the same thing. It probably is normal.

Are you saying that the 2008 GS recognizes which key is being used and adjusts the settings according the key?

I feel like the configuration (seats, mirrors, steering wheel) changes constantly. It makes me feel like I'm crazy.

That is correct. Take the remote that you use for yourself. Sit in the car, with the doors shut and the car off. Hold down the memory button on the driver's door that's set to your settings, and then hold the unlock button on the remote. You will hear a couple beeps and I think the hazards flash too. Now, every time you grab the door handle or hit the unlock on that remote, all the settings will go to yours.
