Lightbulb Yes or No? 2006 GS300

So i have a few questions..

2006 GS300 White with Grey Interior Still looking completely nice

Last owner kept up with maintenance and everything is tip top. It was previously purchased as a Certified Preowned. Has about 90K miles on it. Dropped a bit on Coilovers as well

Here's the questions.

Should i buy it for $15,400?

What Maintenance around 90-110K Miles would i have to do? Besides brakes, oil, and tires.
and how much would it cost me.

Any major problems with the first models 2006 GS300?

Is it worth it?

Water pump, Timing belt or chain, spark plugs those are the ones I can manage to figure out right now. Personally I don't think its worth it cause I think you can get a lower mileage GS 300 right now in the low 20k's

The GS300 and GS350is a timing chain so there is no need to replace that but you should look into the water pump.

If the 06 GS300 use iridium spark plugs then they need to be changed around 100-120k miles. Some service techs say change it at 60k some say around 100k. To get that changed at lexus, its about 400 dollars. If you know how to do it yourself, you can order the partys from sewell. I think its 18 per sparkplug from them.

At this mileage myself and the only thing that jumps out at me is the serpentine belt. Obviously the plugs if they haven't been done in a while (think they're rated for 60k miles here). Same goes for coolant. Perhaps change the transmission fluid strainer (and fluid)?

The way I see it, Your getting a lot of car for the money. 15.5 is used Corolla money. The car has obviously taken a hard hit of depreciation do to mileage. But the parts are not that old. well, no older then all the other 300s. So when your not talking age the concern is maintenance. I'd take it to Lexus for a PPI. weigh there "things to repair/ replace" bill in with your budget and see if the cost makes sense. Keep in mind that your also saving around $600 in taxes. That's a new ipad

i have to laugh when people put serpentine belt and spark plugs! those are DIY projects that can be done for under a $100.00 so no they dont at all affect the value because they dont add real expense. at 15.5 i think its good deal if your gonna keep it. but historically a one year only engine such as the gs300 in the 06 to me has drawbacks. first if you want a gs300 are you gonna settle for the smallest engine they put in it. i wouldnt. its also the oldest of all of the models right now being a 06. so i feel resale on this car will take largest hit. there are alot of very very nice cars for 15,500 that after 3 years of driving you wont have to give away to sell. i suggest a 01-05 gs430 or a 06 gs430 or a 07 gs350 plus a 06 has gen4 navigation it can be changed out which i did its not cheap.

Ben makes some good points. Drive the Gen 2s (V8s) and see if you like them. I personally would rather have a Gen3 as the style and intr is more to my liking. But I was not impressed with the 300s power. however this could make a great DD as it gets excellent MPG. NAV isn't a big deal to me but maybe to you.

@ Ben- My fellow Washingtonian. So I finally closed the deal and now own a GS 450h. FULLY and I mean FULLY LOADED.

Why do you have to laugh? The OP asked "What Maintenance around 90-110K Miles would i have to do?" and people answered. While the jobs may not cost much DIY, the OP may not be as comfortable as you or me doing them themselves.

because it was suggested that the maintenace would drive up cost past actual value. but this train of thought only follows owners of higher end cars were they arent able to do the work themselves. in a few more years these cars wil be outside of there warranty and at that time we'll probably triple our DIY section.

@L8Apex - congrats on the purchase what color did you end up with?

Silver on two tone blk and gray. i cant post pics from this PC at work. Actually, it even blocks me when I start a "new thread". So i'll do it when i get home.

ya know, I almost got Adams blue Gen 2 up in Bmore. And if your price on the white GS was right, that would've suited me nicely as well. There aren't as many GSs out there as you may think. i've been actively looking since mid Oct. If your looking to sell the white put your ad up.

That's why he's getting it for only $15k. The car has already taken the hit to depreciation.

Where are you finding 06 gs430s or 07 gs350s for $15k?

On the east coast wholesale is in the 15k-17k range with many cars for sale for 18k-20k retail

Of course there are factors on every car one of course being color. Since most are undesirable color combo's

ugh -- I found the same problem -- we looked in NV and CA and even AZ and the 3rd gens with reasonable miles (we wanted 50k miles or less) were a rare bird indeed.

Once we decided we really wanted silver with black, it got worse... So all in all, with the market being what it was, we paid $26k before tax and warranty for a 35k mile '06 430. and the exterior has a number of flaws (minor); interior is almost mint. Still.... Out here $20k is a really high mile car off a dime-store car lot with questionable everything...

But I personally wouldn't buy a 300 and didn't even consider them -- lack of power and press, so they should be cheaper...

I have an 06 GS300 and it was the best purchase i made. and guess what? I bought it at 110000miles. I drove it 25,000 miles last year (now at 135,000) and it still runs like a champ.

The only problem i have with the car is the creaking. windshield, dash, and door panel. but ive gotten used to it.

i say go for it. 15k is a steal. for now that is.
